Hello all.

Time has come to change my lovely140 TDi Sport. Seriously thinking of an 170 TDi Altea XL with a sports pack.
Question, has anyone already made this change on the Altea and if so what do you think, is the extra 30 bhp worth the money.

170

I recently part ex'd my Leon Cupra, for new Altea XL 170 Stylance (Family growth). I test drove the 110 & 140, but after owning the very speedy Cupra, decided to purchase a 170bhp. I was told I was the first in the area (Windsor) to buy the 170.

I can honestly say apart from the slow start compared to a petrol 180BHP Leon (understandable), the 170 Diesel Altea XL is fantastic. As long as you dont want to beat people on the pull away, it is fantastic once running. Fuel economy is excellent also.

I would say if you are worried about further fuel economy then go for the 140, else go for the 170 for the fun.

I have almost every extra option. The only thing I dont have from the sport option is the lowered suspension, but do have 17" alloys (now standard), leather, winter pack, ABS, TCS, ESP, EBA, additional air bags & Tomtom, plus got the new bult in the rear doors sun blinds.

I have now owned mine for a month, and love it.

I have to agree with the previous post, whilst I have not drive the 170 given the huge choice of companies who provide mapping services in my view buying a 140 then spending a few £££ would seem to make better financial sense.

Hello folks
The car will be a company car so a remap is out of the question and luckily my budget will allow me to have the extras l want, sports pack, sunroof, metallic and winter pack.
Oliverpe, thats for the comment, too old to blast of the line now, but when l'll going l don't hang about.

Thanks all.

I'm having the same dilemma at the moment.

Thinking about changing my Leon for a Altea XL Stylance. I think I will be going for the 140TDI though.

I need something more practical, I must be getting old:(

To be truthful if it was my own money l'll probably stick with the 140 TDI as it is surprising quick in the mid range. But as someone else is paying for the car l think the least l should do is spend what they said l could.

Anyway, enjoy it while you can, you never know what's round the corner!

Exactly my thoughts about the 140.

It's about £1k cheaper than the 170, cheaper tax and slightly better mpg.

170 is very nice though. We have a 170 Passat at work.
