Well, you learn something new every day! I honestly didn't know that the 17" FR+ wheels fit over the LCR Brembo callipers. Techie, were you running the full LCR-size 323mm discs too? I thought that was why the 18" wheels were required on the LCR.

This is why we love SCN :D Always something new to learn!

Yep they were the full sized discs.

woop, on the ball tonight! Found the calculator too:

18" 225/40 profile
Results for your selected Wheel/Tyre
Rolling Radius 317.15mm
Circumference 1992.71mm
Diameter 634.3mm

17" 225/45 profile
Rolling Radius 318.6mm
Circumference 2001.82mm
Diameter 637.2mm

Fancy that, the 17" are larger with tyres, now that's gonna throw spanners in the works for working out accelerations. I'd say, not gonna make a difference.

I never knew that! Does that mean you could put 225/45 on 18s without it causing a problem?

Erm, if you changed your 225/40/18 to 225/45/18 then you'll alter the rolling radius too much and it'd make your speedo a bit inaccurate. I *think* a larger rolling radius would mean the speedo reads higher than the speed you're doing, but I'm not sure, it's early...

Most speedos give a high reading anyway.

If you add the 5mm that the 45's give you the diameter would be 639.3mm, thats only 2mm bigger than the 17's, could it make that much of a difference?

But the 40/45 profile doesn't refer to millimetres, it's a percentage of the tread width (ie 40% of 225 = 90, 45% of 225 = 101.25).

edit - why not put the figures into the same calculator you're using there. 225/40/18 vs 225/45/18 and see what it tells you the difference is. Most of them will tell you a percentage difference as well, and they usually recommend staying within -/+ 2.5% of your original size to avoid calibration issues.

My bad, I always thought that it refered to the tyre wall in mm, but now thinking about it

Although i am refering to moving from 17's to 18's, wheres that calculator at?

The calculator I used above was the etyres one - www.etyres.co.uk/tyre-size-calculator.htm

And yeah, moving from 225/40/18 to 225/45/17 for a better ride is entirely feasible, but the post I was replying to specifically asked about putting 225/45s on 18" wheels which isn't :)

cheers gavin, just want to check how much of a difference moving from 225/45/17 to 225/45/18 would be and i think a little too much.

tyre sizes

Hello,

what tyres match on alloy wheels orginal Cupra R M1 18" with Brembo brakes?

now i have 225x40x18 and for winter i want to buy some snow tyres for the same alloy rims.

the alloys are the same as AntneeUK

thanks,

hi, i'd like to know FOR SURE if i can upgrade my front brake system with the brembo JUNIOR KIT with disc 323x28 (just like the OEM CUPRA R's one) and keep my 7.5x17 arrasate alloys WITHOUT SPACERS.

thanks..

You would have zero problems!
