Getting a new syncromesh fitted next week for 100quid but i gotta remove gearbox myself! is there anything i can check/clean while the gearbox is off?
gearbox rebuild.. around £ 500-600 mark, wouldnt sell the car because of it. somebody will obviously notice it straight away on a test drive and would knock you down the price of the box so you would loose out there also.. oil change wont help. syncro has worn too much. oil change might help a slight crunch for the first few gear changes in cold weather. vag boxes arnt very good, my golf box failed too.
I know this aint got nowt to do with gearbox but saves me making a new thread for a little question.

Mines notchy from 1st to 2nd when cold, but then is fine once warm.
With things to check, I'd check the clutch and flywheel.
I've got mine to do at the weekend hopefully. Then she'll be remapped.
My nieghbour should have has put an indusction kit on his LCR, so Ithink he's still got his air box.
I'll ask him tonight what he's doing with it.

Gearbox is finally off after 4hours!, gave it to the guy hus gonna fix and he says he cant buy the synchromesh on its own he says he can only buy it with a hub and shaft (i think) which will now cost me £250 from £100 Quoted, Does anyone know if these extra parts would be an extra £150 (TRADE Price) and if they would need fitting ?
Spoke to my neighbour mate,
He said that he probably would sell the air box, but doesn't know how much to ask for it.

Gear box done and back in (new syncro some other bits and oil change) all in cost me 180quid Now its Loads better and smoother now. yea Markgb can meet up now to have a look at this box freem most nights afert 5pm

hope your dad knows what hes at gearboxes is big job. gearbox went in my old golf 1.4 16v the mate put it in but was at it full day. think its easyer takeing one out than putting back in . hope it all gos well for you
