Yeah i saw that one bud. TBH, i might as buy the one with 5 chips for £24 and have a few spare. Well i have 4 keys for my car but only 2 have the chips in them. Is it true that they can only be coded once, IIRC, my brother has a few keys coded to his vw caddy a few weeks back at the dealers and the blojke said they can be coded many times. Also as it says on that guide, the immo may lose the data for original key so you may have to program that again. Ummmm....

If you delete them i think they can be recoded.
Mine went weird a few weeks ago after the battery was off, my regular wouldn't work the imob or the locking so had to re-pair it.

I was thinking this the other day - transponders are one use only, and can only work on one car - yet if you delete a key from the ecu memory it can be re-programmed to work on that car again. Why are they one use only when they emit a standard code? Not like they have any memory to know if they've already been programmed?

Leon remote part numbers

2 button remote Seat Leon 2002-2005 1J0959753CT or 1J0959753AG

3 button remote Seat Leon 2002-2005 1J0959753DA or 1J0959753AH

2 button remote Seat Leon 2000-2002 1J0959753N

I get a couple of customers each week that have just bought 2nd remotes from Ebay & can't get them to program manually. When i ask them if they bought the correct part number 90% haven't a clue what part number they should've bought


As for VAG transponders only being able to be programmed to 1 car. That's not necessarily true. There is equipment available that can unlock about 75% of VAG id48 T6 transponders so, basically turning them back to a virgin chip. The equipment i have for that is the Advanced Diagnostics AD900 Pro

Oh & it's only works for non CANBUS systems

Thanks, Craig, that's very useful information. There have been many discussions on here, but all relying on heresay. It isn't easy to find out details of the alarm and immobiliser systems, which makes some sense I suppose.

Is the RF frequency printed on the keyfob significant at all, i.e. is there any difference in frequency between the pre- and post-2002 fobs?

It's also fascinating to know that transponders can be unlocked - the manual tells you to use a new one, obviously for security purposes. It's still not a DIY process, of course.

the earlier remotes 1J0 959 753N are 433.92mhz & the later CT/AG/DA/AH remotes are 434mhz.

As long as the correct part number is bought then the RF frequency will be bang on. The frequency will be printed onto the remote case along with the part number anyway

With regards to unlocking transponders, it's not really a DIY thing for your normal car owner as the equipment isn't cheap. i'm into a 5 figure number with my key cutting/programming equipment. Which is all genuine equipment, even my VCDS is genuine whereas most people just go for the £20 Ebay vagcom. I don't just do VAG, I do most other makes as well. All mobile so i do travel quite a bit, usually within a 100 mile radius. Even traveling that far i'm still usually cheaper than the dealerships

Which is fine for the home user but as soon as you use it for business purposes using cloned equipment is just asking for trouble. If anything goes wrong you have no tech support & any repair bills due to software making something in the car bugger up is coming out of your own pocket

I actually bought some renault software a few months ago which was advertised as 2nd hand. It wasn't cheap but was cheaper than buying new but when it was delivered the packaging hadn't been opened. I didn't really think anything of it & just cracked on with it. Then 2-3 months down the line it packed up & then i've recently just found out it was a clone of renault truecode. Nearly landed me in a bit of bother

oh & as i said only 75% of the VAG id48 T6 transponders are able to be unlocked. Which isn't an issue as i carry plenty of transponders in the van anyway. Normally i just do a full new key for customers. It's only once every few weeks i get somebody that has bought a full 2nd hand key & wants to use it

Hmm. My key (non-flip, 2-button, 2004 car) has "433 MHz" moulded on the key section along with a lot of other numbers and letters, but I don't have the part number anywhere on the key, neither on the key section itself (which has the transponder stuck to it) or on the remote-locking-and-alarm keyfob section. My second, "dumb", key has nothing on the plastic at all. Both keys have W3 and HAA stamped into the key blade.

I'm sure this is why we all go on about 433MHz and 434MHz keys, it's the only bit of info on the key we can make sense of.

I seem to recall someone saying that the W3 refers to the immobiliser variant, but can't find the reference now.

Hence the interest in the RF frequency - it's the only thing we've been able to use as a reference.

well all my customers so far have always gone for flip keys instead of the normal fixed blade type. Not because they just prefer flip keys but also because they're cheaper.

I don't really think about the RF frequency at all tbh. I know what part number remote is needed for each model/year car so i just go on that & i always have a few of each in stock

I upgraded to flip key as the range is better,i know 434mhz didnt work on mine as its 2001 so got a 433mhz & it programmed straight away,only cost £40 altogether :)

yep, when the car is in a good mood the remotes are easy to program manually. I do find quite a lot won't accept new remotes manually so i just use either VCDS or my MVP

no probs, i'm based in huddersfield but i do travel about quite a lot. I'm basically covering all of yorkshire, lancashire, derbyshire, midlands, & lincolnshire.

I'll go as far as anybody will pay me to go! :D furthest so far was a 240 mile round trip to kings lynn just to cut & program a vauxhall combo remote key. I was only £10 cheaper than the dealership by the time i'd added for fuel & driving time but the customer preferred to give me his money instead of the stealers!

As a rough guide i charge £90 within a 10 mile radius to supply, cut & program a mk1 Leon 2/3 button remote. I charge more for the newer Leon with CANBUS system because of what's involved as the transponder has to be precoded with info from the car before it can actually programmed to the car
