2007 Cupra 4 wheel drive project

A friend of mine suggested that we should see about adding a 4Motion all-wheel drive from the R32 Golf to my Cupra. Needless to say my ears perked up and if it is possible I will have it done. Since the Cupra shares the same frame/parts of the Golf Mark V this might just be a bolt-on affair....

Has anyone else attempted this yet on a Leon model yet?

How about the floorpan would there be enough space?

Also how much weight would it add?

Lots more weight, more transmission losses, the rear floorpan is completely difference with the battery being mounted back there on the MK5 R32. practically anything is possible, its purely down to how much you can afford to chuck at it to make it work

Your absolutely right Andy. I am exploring the possibility of this project being at all practical both from a technical and financial perspective. But to get there I need to gather some facts to see if the next step is practical...

It would be a very big project! Masses of electronics to be wired in, different suspension mounts and a higher boot floor just for starters. However Audi have all the right bits on the underside of the S3 so there's a starting point.....get underneath one ASAP!

A written-off Mk5 R32 would be a good place to start. Essentially 'trim' everything from the chassis rails outward and upwards and transfer the Cupra shell across


Not sure if you could do it legally without an SVA test

one of my dreams as a lottery winner(IF) was to add 4wd to a rhd LCR...anyway as I said--dreams!!-would be a bit different though, as posted above lots of money involved!!!!

isnt there already a Leon cupra 4R 3.2 V6 on the euro market? think it only comes in LHD though.

yeah thats what we are saying europe got the mk1 cupra4 which was a 4wd leon with the my03 kit on it and a 2.8V6, tdi or 1.8 20vt engine but they were only avalialbe in LHD

althou i did hear that you could get them as special order from the factory in spain in RHD with the 1.8 20vt but i dont know how accurate this is

Dont bother looking for an R32/S3/TT, just find a 4motion Golf, its the same stuff, but the car is way cheaper!!

Then, upgrade your ARB's/Shocks/springs with S3/TT/R32 stuff, as thats fairly cheap second hand. You could even stick the engine in too?????!!!!

Then, look on the Corrado forum at this to see how much work is involved in changing a 2WD car to 4WD (even though its a Corrado).

If we are going to do it it will be done this month.

I was wondering if anyone has experience in stand-alone Haldex controllers or know of one that is active system that can be used in this setup. Best scenario is to reuse the ECU and activate the 4wd drive programming along with all the safety features to recognize the Haldex setup...

Otherwise have to look at a stand alone system ...
