Just been to view and test drive a 2.0 TDI FR, 65k on clock, FSH, everything in order but did notice a noticeable turbo whistle through rev range, could also hear it when using throttle whilst stood. Didnt quite sound like the "police siren" problem I've read about but enough to make me do a bit of research before partign with my cash.

Car drove perfectly otherwise, power smooth and no flat spots or anything

Could it be a split hose? or should I steer clear?

was the whistle around 1800 rpm mark and like a squeal as if something was slipping? if so there was a thread on here from memory were somebody had similar sort of thing and dealer told them was normal but was a leak from the manifold

I had 4 diesels in my life and all off them were making whistling sound trough revs ...

Just an update, was lucky enough to find another FR to compare against the one I drove this morning, had 75k on the clock but the noise that was present on the one this morning wasnt there on the one I drove this afternoon, could hear the turbo spooling a little but not the whiine/whistle I heard on the one this morning.

Mine makes a whistle noise when it's cold up then goes away. Seemingly common enough

The sign of a failing turbo is there..... The more siren/whistle sound whilst standing still, every one of my brothers tdi 140 started like this
The obvious slight whistle is normal
