hello all just want some advice about converting a seat ibiza 20l 16v gti to a 1.8L 20V turbo, has this conversion been done and how much work is needed?

cheers for any help

It's been done yes, and isn't difficult as the cars are very similar. You will find it a lot cheaper to buy a Mk3 Cupra in the first place though.

Not really with 20VT 1.8T lumps kicking about at £500, £300 for a loom & ECU, probably need a turbo and downpipe, IC pipes too....

If labour is free, it won't cost the earth at all. If you take it to someone to do - they'll take you for more than you can buy a Mk3 for

There were two at the recent track day at Castle Combe.
First was a black L-reg LHD with a Leon engine in it running 230bhp on avo coilovers and willwood brakes.
Second was a red L-reg F2 lookalike on the RSD stand - the bloke said the car was due to be exported to Australia.
I have to admit I fell in love with the F2 lookalike - it had just been painted up and looked like a mini Quattro with the wing extensions! I've got some piccies I need to load up.

Can do all the work myself, would be looking for a later spec engine with 225bhp and would be running it on something like a omex ecu,
main issues are...
1) How much cutting and welding is required to make it fit
2) Will the gearbox fit of a gti16v or do i need a gearbox off the 20V turbo
3) Arer engine mounts available or do you have to make your own

I'm quite good with spanners but would like to know before i get a project

cheers

How'd you work that one out ?!?

2.0 16v = 150Bhp
1.8 20vT = 156Bhp

(book figures)

and has just been said, 1.8 20vT is soo easy to tune up, compared to the 2.0 16v......

My 16v's RR'ed at 165hp with ONLY a crappy hi flow CAT and standard air box. Also, i beleive the 16v is lighter. It is also a normally aspirated engine - hence - RAW engine power.

Also, my dads M3 SMG can just about keep up until around 80 - 90mph
I can just see big debate coming out of all this, so i'll rub it in a bit more.

The old MK2 ibiza's look alot better as well.
Lastly, the 16V lump is the daddy.
:funk:

fitting a k04 based engine as you desire will be significantly more work than a 180bhp engine.

If you pick up a k03 based engine, you can use Ibiza rear engine mounts tagged to your existing gearbox, driveshafts & engine mounts.

also does anyone have any pictures of this conversion or know of anyone doing this project at the moment

cheers again for the help and advice

ok, cheers for the help, how tunable is the ko3 engine? is this the engine common to audi's and vw's as well as seats or do i have to look for a seat engine to fit with the mounts?

cheers

with the right bits and laughable dyno results you might see 250bhp, but realistically 220bhp with 260lbft

Golf Mk4's or SEAT Ibiza's, or SEAT Leon's
