This is out of date information. SEAT (and Skoda and presumably VW), are now recommending that the timing belt is changed at 40k or 4 years, (which ever is the sooner), for all models with the VW Golf derived engine.

I learned this from a (Skoda) dealer when I bought my car (50k 02 plate Leon Cupra) from them. He wasn't getting any money out of me for doing it as he only remembered the (then new - late 2006) recomendation when I asked if the belt had been changed and so said he would include it as part of the deal.

is this definetly (sp?) true? I just had my 40k service, for £302 I think, and they didn't change the cambelt so I think they'll be getting a phone call on monday if it's true (its a fr150 tdi 05 plate btw)

i got my 40,000 mile service done by my brother in law who's an auto electrician cos i'm not paying SEATs ripping off prices again. the service pack that SEAT sent him cost 79 quid and he took 70 quid for doing it so all in it cost 150 quid. main dealers are only interested in squeezing money out of you then giving you a list the length of your arm for stuff that needs doing (yeah right).

ah yes, they were previously a seat dealership.
Dont fancy having another "black dove" experience!

Will they do all the proper stuff as per the manual?
also, will the stamp on the book have a seat logo?

Raymonds Garage, Pontyberem is a great dealer (oldest in the country & no1 dealer in Seat customer satisfaction for years!). Small, family run business who aren't into ripping you off and do a good job. Recommended!!!

to be honest, i'd rather not go to a main dealer, but i want the service history to be SEAT

.....or have a nice looking seat badge on the service stamp.
will i get that from a seat specialist?

pretty much....last two services on mine were done by JKM.... stamp says something like 'Volkswagen, Audi, Seat specialist" I personally think that, and the knowledge the car has been worked on by people who know what they're doing, and actually take pride in doing a good job is worth far more than having a seat stamp....

in my personal experience seat dealer servicing has been dire and the stamps in the service book aren't worth the paper they're written on....

hey mark, yes i went to JP Board in Bridgend, yes they were very good and did everything that needed doing, they gave me a courtesy car for the day and they stamped my book with the Seat logo. :)

Will def. go back there for my 50k service this year.

My 40k service is due in 700 miles, popped into my local dealer today (Seat in Newbury Berks) and they quoted me £405 for a 40k service! I don't think I will be going there!

Hi,

I had the service done at Star Performance. Got quoted £285, but managed to haggle a little as I needed other work carried out on my car.

If you are able to get it for ~£300, that seems a pretty good price.

All the best,
Cheers
