5 speed 'box question

Hi all,

I am new to here and I currently drive a Fiesta ST 57 plate and I am looking into swapping it for an Ibiza FR 1.8T.
What is the 5 speed like on the mototrway? Revs at 70-80mph? My ST currently does 3900 at about 80mph (on autobahns of course ;)) and I was wondering how it compared to a turbocharged engine with the extra torque.

Kind regards,

Matt

I dont know the exact figures you are looking for,and maybe the fiesta st handling is better as I have never driven one,but there is more torque in the 1.8t therefore better in gear acceleration and especially on the motorway. In addition the 1.8t can be remapped to give around 190-200bhp and 230 plus lbs torque. However from what I understand, a 6speed box would be better for motorway cruising. As far as handling, there are upgrades to enhance the handling(depending on how deep your pocket is) and many people on this forum have had drastic improvements by doing such upgrades

The FR does 2800 rpm in 5th at 70mph and the torque is there at those revs. I don't think there is any need for a 6th gear with the gearboxes on the FR and Cupra 1.8Ts. It will still rev to about 6800 rpm so cruising at ~3000 rpm is fine. The 1.8T is a very torquey engine

As said, no real need for a 6th gear IMO.

If the 20vt Ibiza had 6 gears there would be no need for a diesel engine IMO.

You can get low 40's MPG if you take it easy and plenty of grunt too. The best of both worlds IMO.

I found the cupra to have quite long gearing, as said above it doesnt need a 6th gear, and cruising at 70mph on the motorway your rite on boost so overtaking is very interesting, cars just disapear in your rear view mirror

Yea you can still accelerate uphill in 4th at 30mph (or knock it down into 2nd for fun :D)

Just done a 60 mile trip in the fr and have to say i agree with everything above, crusing at 70 was low in the rev rage but pulling out to overtake was like blowing candles out! a wee puff and there gone!

Yeah i agree, i aint got my remap yet but would imagine it be like a bullit after, its already quick!!

With a Stage 2 and 240bhp, it will boost all the way from ~2000rpm to 6800rpm instead of gradually trailing off like standard
