Hey guys, im new to these forums so hello!

Ive had my ibiza for a couple of months now and im loving it! Hopefully getting it remapped soon when ive done abit more reading up on the whole process!

But.. when i was driving to work the other day the cars power just died. Basically the accelerator wouldnt work and a massive siren/whistling noise come from the engine.. from what i could only imagine to be the turbo?

Now i dont want to drive it incase i cause further damage.

Could anyone help me out to what is wrong? :(

Thanks in advance, Richie!

Thanks, ive had a look under the bonnet and cant seem to see any pipe that look like they have come off or are disconnected at first glance.

How much roughly am i looking at to replace a turbo if it is knackerd?

As Adam said it sounds like one of your boost pipes has popped off. Did the car smoke really badly after you lost the power? Was there a big bang, and then a loss of power?

My boost pipe came off recently. It's on the left hand side of the engine bay near to the alternator. The pipe should be firm with a little give if you wiggle it. If you can move it easily, it's probably come off at the bottom.

You don't need to take the bumper off, you can change it quite easily in situ. I've given the part number in one of my previous threads.

If the car did smoke, i couldnt see as it was pitch black when it happened! I didnt notice any big bang, the car just seemed to lose all power instantly when i shifted from second to third pulling out of a bend.

Ive checked all the pipes i can see and gave them abit of a wiggle but everything seems to be firmly in place.. Started the engine when i had it on the drive, and it runs fine but again when i touch the accelerator that massive siren noise appears!

Are you sure the pipe isn't rubbing on the alternator or the belt? This would explain the noise increasing in pitch when you increase the revs.

My car would idle ok, but there was absolutely bugger all power when trying to drive on the road. Going uphill was virtually impossible. I thought the turbo had gone at first!!

It seems to be a fairly common problem with Ibiza's. My money is still on the pipe not being attached properly at the bottom.

Well, the cars been in the garage and apperently the turbo has gone.

Quoted me £500 to replace. Does this seem reasonable? Or should i shop around...

Hmm, I would definitely consider a second opinion. Unless the garage knows about Seats/VAG cars, they may just make the expensive snap diagnosis you've just had.

Go and ask someone else for their opinion.
