looks like you've done a decent job there:), was considering a while back doing the same with the door handles in my cupra. You've helped with the desicion as it looks loads better.:D

Small update.

Put in some footwell lights. Will be doing the rears also. Lights fade on and off with the interior light and each light uses the left and right reading light switch.

Take its the wiper arm is just a straight swap??? Thinking of getting one for my FR but might just remove it all.

For the past few weeks I have been saving and slowly purchasing audio equipment to install in my car. Im not yet ready to install any thing as of yet as I am trying to do things properly.

My goal is to have 2 6.5 subs in the rear doors, amps components in the front, and a 10 inch sub in a fibre glass enclosure in the rear. the amps will be under a false floor and I'm hoping to keep the spare wheel well accessible.

I am going to be sound deadening the doors with foam, expanding foam and deadening mat material.

These are the subs I am going to use for the rear doors.

I have hit a problem already. Assuming the 5dr is the same as the 3dr in that the speakers mount to the door card rather then the door (ridiculous..). These have to be front mounted on to an MDF ring. Except the trim on the outside ring of the speaker will not sit flush, and it has been glued. I dont really fancy cutting up the door cards to mount them to correct way either.

The only thing I can think of is to make a foam ring to fill the gaps.

I will hopefully be installing this into one of my doors next weekend when I am all the parts to deaden the door. I will be using a mates amp and head unit to test for vibration and to see if I should buy another sub for the other door, or to kill the idea and get a decent set of coaxials.

If any one else has an idea on the mounting of the subs, please feel free to chuck some ideas at me!

EDIT: Ive seen this..

Exspensive, and can probably make it my self, except I have no idea how they will sound. If they really sound terrible, Im left with a gaping hole in my doors.

Going to be honest the car looks sweet mate congrats :) wasn't sure about the whole back setup at first but now it looks the mutts nuts xD.
Any news on a video of your exhaust noise looks really nice with them finished in black :)

Made some progress over the last 2 weekends. Rear door card was fairly easy to get off. Except when you have lifted the whole thing up and out, you then had to deal with VERY short steel cables for the windows regulator.

I managed to unscrew the regulator off of the door card, and the card was then able to lay flat.

I used as much sound deadening as possible with out over packing parts that could cause it not to fit properly. I used it on all pieces including the handles.
The speaker rings were too thick, so I used 12mm MDF instead. Routed the cable through the door ready for testing.

Ill let the pictures do the talking. I never got any with the 12mm though.

Getting the door back on was a NIGHTMARE. Clips broke, and the holes for the regulator snapped aswell. Eventually I gave up on trying to secure the regulator back to the door card, and just used the bolt that goes through the handle.
When tapping the door card and outer door skin compared to the others, there is a huge difference. With the sound deadening there is a nice deep toneless thud, even when the door is shut is makes a nice deep sound. A lot of rattling I used to have from that door has now stopped I just need to solve some rubber squeaking, which sounds like its coming from the very rear by the parcel shelf.

My head unit comes tomorrow which I'm pretty excited about. It has a 70W 2 Ohm sub amp built in, so im tempted to try it out before I order a better amp.

Went to install my head unit today to realise that my fitting kit didnt include all off the parts. The screws did not fit in the headunit and had to use double sided 3M sticky.
When test fitting the facia, it did not fit well at all. I looked back at the image from the site where I bought it and it looks different. Even the mounting brackets for the unit are different.

My facia has a straight sided rectangle in the middle. The images I am seeing has chamfered edges around the rectangle. And the brass brackets are a lot bigger then the ones pictured. I have called the store where I ordered it from, Connects2 are sending another one out to them and will then be with me Thursday. Best of all, they didnt ask me to send the old on back. which I am pretty happy about!

Ive wired up the unit, and tested it out. Its a very nice unit, that isnt to complicated or crappy looking to use.

Hello mate -newbie from up hertfordshire but strangely born in braintree.

Congrats on the car, been looking through the whole of your thread and given me loads of inspiration for my black mk5 5dr!

well done fella

Cheers man thank you.

Little update on the Audio build.

I now have both rears sound deadened and focal access coaxials installed. Linked to a 5 channel Vibe amp.

I also got bored and made a sub box for that 6.5' sub. Works surprising well! When the weather gets better I will move on to upgrading the fronts.

Another little update. Ive installed an air induction kit. Excuse the oil, I forgot to put the oil breather back on when I took it for a test drive! Makes a lovely roar when I put my foot down in second and third gear. Goes well with the duplex!

Cheers mates. It's fairly easy. Just take your time and google the hell out of what your wanting to achieve. Join fibreglass forums and other audio forums to get more help.
I was concerned when I was making the box that it was going to turn out crap and sound shoddy. But I was pleasantly surprised!

Took me about 8 months to complete all the audio though.
