8V Throttle Body

Asked a well known tuninig establishment if they could re-set my new throttle body.
They said they could but if I asked on the Cupranet someone could tell me how to do it myself for free. Anyone out there with the answer please?

I 'think' you can do it using VAG-com through the ODBII port..... not 100% sure though

You'd need to find someone local with VAG-com on a laptop, and also a lead to plug into your car.

Thanks, I'm up in Cumbria near Ulverston and nearest Seat Dealer is 40+ miles away.
Local(20 miles away) VW/Audi guys v. helpfull but local guy at non franchise garage with VAG-Com doesn't seem to know his way round the software too well.
It was Awsome GTI who recommended that I do it via online help but for £30.00 at VAG dealer may be the way to go unless I can get specific help.
Almost tempted to get serial port access and software for future issues

Throttle bodies need re-setting
The one on my 2e lump looks totally mechanical

think you just have the bonnet or drivers door open, turn ignition on, but not start engine. listen for a high pitch sound in the engine bay, possibly some clicks. once its stopped its done.

Thanks, will try with both bonnet and door open! (needless to say since I've bought the new throttle body the old ones been fine! I'm sure it's just waiting to take the proverbial so it's comin off tonight.)

to reset the idle position of the throttle body, otherwise when you replace the throttle body, you may end up with a funny idle.

Isnt that the fuel pump priming the fuel system, to make sure theres ample pressure?

Put on new throttle body, open door and bonnet turned on ignition. No sounds so started the moto, guess what? The problem that I had is still there, exactly same symptoms! Usually dies with less than 1100 revs, sometimes idles ok, sometimes, not often kangaroos on low load and throttle, usually won't pull entirely clean till 3000 revs then sets off like a er, rabbit.
When I turn the ignition off you can actually see the butterfly kicking off it's stop intermittently for about 15 secs.
Can only think it's some kind of earthing fault(changed the main battery/earth lead and engine earth lead looks fine)
Really am confused, especially as VW agent could find no fault, in fact kangarooing started for the first time after they had had it on their analyser!

hey guys. wen i turn my ignition on i get the clicking noise but it'll stay like that until i turn the ignition of, does this mean i got a prob with my throtle body?

I had exactly the same symptoms. Replaced my throttle body with a 'recon' one off flea bay. Did the job and only cost 30 bucks i think.
My throttle body would be clicking and the linkage moving back and forth until you start the engine and then wouldn't tick over until warm and hesitated on acceleration. All sorted now though. Unfortunately i haven't got a clue what they clean/replace to make them work properly again.

Do all of the 2.0l have the OBD11 ports?? Or are some still OBD1?

Hi,
Not sure about the port situation.
My problem turned out to be ECU not Throttle Body(despite various VAG dealers thinking it might be but unable to identify actual the fault)>
Got it repaired relatively cheaply via the internet.
