Do you need the metal bracket thing that is round the middle of the coolant tank that the clutch cable goes through??

I think this being on could be helping to make the noise i have when im turning left?!

Quickish reply needed if possible.

Thanks in advance.

not sure m8 , but OT , was the strut brace an easy fit ? drilling required?

I didnt fit it, the garage did it the same time as my exhaust. It took them less than half an hour.

Holes have been drilled for the bolts and the lid on top of the brake fluid tank had to be turned alittle so the wires going to it didnt get in the way.

Also one of the screws/bolts had to be removed from the coolant tank (the back one) and it had to be turned slightly. I just put a zip-tie round the bracket and through the hold where the screw should be for alittle extra support.

The top of the tank is touching the bottom of the strut brace and the metal bracket im enquiring about lifts it up slightly (i think) so i dont know if this is causing the coolant tank to vibrate off the bottom of the strut brace when turning left

no - it's not moving

what kind of noise is it? and what are you doing to make it?

Im only turning left and the noise is happening. It happens if you are above 40mph and when the steering wheel is turned over 90 degrees. Its like a slight knocking/rubbing/vibrating.

I dont think it is due to it being lowered 60mm at the front as ive had it lowered this much since april and the noise only started yesterday.

that'll be the tyre coming off rim with wheel turned over 90 deg at 40 mph:whistle:

where is noise coming from? left, right, under bonnet, under car, back?
have you looked at inside of tyres for marks, rubbing etc?

an 'extreme' bump can cause greater wheel movement......

how can you fix it? just take the wheel off & look..... see what's rubbing

Could it have anything to do with the jubilee-clip that i put round my rear exhaust mount??

The hanger on the mk3 exhaust didnt go into the mk2 mount as they mk3 mount is turned 90 degrees. So the hanger was zip-tied up round the mk2 mount. There was no noise on monday but on tuesday night i put a jubilee-clip round the zip-ties for extra support then the noise started on wednesday morning on the way to college.

take off the jubilee clip and just have the tie raps, go for a quick blast and if it is gone, then problem solved, if not, back to the drawing board!!!

is it me? how did we get from noise prob left front to jubilee clip on rear of exhaust as source of noise:confused:

Yep thats wat im thinking. but it wasnt there on monday then i put a jubilee-clip on the exhaust on the tuesday and the noise was there on the wednesday.

Dont think that it will be that though but i might take the jubilee-clip off and see.

Im gonna get a set of axle stands n get it jacked up next weekend and have a look.

Right took my car for a drive last night to see if i could exactly pin-point where this noise is coming on. Didnt have my cd-player or anything on.

It sounds like its coming from under the car, just behind the front seats right in the middle. I think it could possibly be the exhaust.

Could this be a possibility?? Ive had a mk3 system put on and the piping is a larger diameter than my previous exhaust.

Could a bracket or something be loose??

Had a similar position noise problem on mine, which started after the car had warmed up and particularly under acceleration.
Found that the rear end of the centre silencer was hitting the front edge of the bracket that's bolted across the the underneath of the car.
Couldn't reposition the exhaust (everything rusted together :censored:), so I had to re-engineer the bracket. Took the bracket off and hacksawed 10mm off the front edge.
No noise at all since. :D

Thats what is must been then. It sounds like it is coming from that area around the bracket. Will have to get it up and have a proper look. Its only started since i got my mk3 cupra exhaust put on so this could sound about right.

It definetely isnt the front wheels catching anything. Had both the front wheels off today and there isnt any run marks on the inside of the tyre.

I found that when the car/exhaust was cold, it looked like there was a plenty of clearance between the silencer and bracket. No matter how hard I hit/moved the exhaust, it wouldn't knock against anything.
Only when the exhaust was hot (and it had expanded) was I able to get it to make any noise. You'll have to be quick trying this, as the exhaust starts to contract very quickly after you've stopped driving it.
