ABS on all the time

was driving home last night when the ABS decided it needed to come on and piss me off, ended up driving about 5 miles wit the abs making weird noises, and i could feel it was coming on under braking, then this morning its still the same, any ideas what this could be?

i recently had all discs and pads changed about 2 - 3 weeks ago and its been fine till now..

i cant get VAG - Com working so cant check it with that..

I had a similar problem to this on my girlfriends' Peugeot 206cc over xmas. I pulled the ABS fuse to stop the ABS kicking in as it was kicking in for no reason under braking & reducing the efficiency of the braking rather than improving it. Pulling the ABS fuse will disable the ABS and T/C but at least it will make the car driveable so you can get it fixed. with the pug it turned out to be the reluctor ring had completely snapped off and disappeared! the reluctor ring is located behind the disc & hub area, it is a splined ring (looks kind of like a cog/gear), and should rotate with the drive shaft. It lines up with the ABS sensor in the hub, this is how the sensor detects the rotation/acceleration/decelleration of the wheel.

I'm not quite sure if it can be easily viewed from underneath the ibiza or if you will need to remove the wheels in order to get a good look, may as well check the ABS sensors for any damage, broken wires etc while you're in there, also check your tyre presures and your fuses to make sure there's not something obvious.

the pug needs a whole new driveshaft to replace the reluctor ring as it is built-in but I should think on most cars the reluctor ring can be bought as an individual part. Hope this is of some help, I spent half my christmas holiday under her car figuring it out!

Thanks Doc, i was thinking it could be the reluctor ring (didnt know what it was called tho), i was thinking maybe the mechanic broke it when he put the discs on, or i was imagining a piece of grit stuck in it or something, i will have a look tonight hopefully, and i will have another blast with vagcom.

i had this recently, after replacing sensors etc, i finally found one of the cables behind the wheel to the sensor was damaged.

the light rarely comes on, just the ABS coming on whenever it wants and making weird noises, i think it could be the wire is damaged as it doesnt come on all the time, but it has for the last 3 days now...

GOOD NEWS!!

got vagcom working i had to run as administrator, every time i opened it, thought i only had to do it on install.... anyway..

i got the following fault "00285 - ABS Wheel Speed Sensor: Front Right (G45) 35-10 - - - Intermittent"

which i guess is the ABS sensor, i cleared the code and it is pukka for now, hopefully it wont come back, if it does i know where the problem lies.

i once had to buy 2 ABS sensors for the old mk2 ibiza i had because i didnt know which one was faulty, wish i had V-C working then..

i had that error when i had a dodgy cable too, the "Intermittent" thing was what made me realise what it was.

I ended up chopping a section of cable out and soldering a new bit in, seat wanted £200 for a new ABS loom
