Acid or Calcium Battery

Looks like I need a new one. Needed to jump it a few weeks back, took it for a long drive and charged up OK. Car has sat unused for 4 days in cold weather but completely dead now (even though I checked it 5 days ago and the green indicator was showing). Given it is probably the original battery and therefore 8 years old I will assume it's time for change (or is there anything else I need to do?).

Quick check on Halfrauds shows two types (one for £90, the other for £100 - ouch). Basically the calcium battery is a tenner more than the standard acid. Is there anything to particularly recommend one over the other?

You'll find a cheaper battery from a parts supplier such as partco or someone else that supplies to the trade....anyway calcium will last longer and I'm pretty sure it delivers a bigger current and its maintenance free!. I'd choose calcium over standard acid personally. Oh and if you do buy it from halfords the calcium comes with a longer warranty

Thanks for the advice. Slightly limited by finding a supplier who is open today or tomorrow so I may just bite the bullet and go for convenience over cost. Calcium it is then.

All sorted. It seemed far more fiddly than it should have been with the fuse holder on top, the battery cover cramping everything and the nut clamping down the battery being hard to access with my crude tools. I really don't like the design (I've had the fan fuse meltdown problem) but at least the car started and all seems good for now.
