Hey all, need some quick advice, as i need to change the whole shocks and springs this week. Decided not to go for coilovers (think they abit harsh ride).

Thinking of fitting new lowering springs and shock which are 45mm lowering. Just concered, how much will the car drop by. will my sump scarpe as i have the standard 16 mulitspoke alloy wheels. cant find any members with search who have similer setup. :help:

I could be wrong here, but i don;t think the wheel size should make a huge difference, cos even if you had bigger say 18in rims the overall rolling radius should be about the same as the 16's,

So with a 45mm drop it'll be as close to the ground as a lcr on 18's dropped the same i would have thought

Having said that i think 40mm is the most you'd want to go, for safety...

Might have to take extra care on speed humps and the like tho'

Pheww  yeh i always go slow on the ramps, aprox 5mph or less. just didnt want to get it and find the sump scrappping all al th way. Got that sorted.

cheer matey :D

The wheels wont make any difference - unless setup & fitted by a monkey!!!!

16" wheels will have something like 55 or 60 profile tyres, 18" wheels will have something around 40 profile tyres.

So on the bigger wheels you have a smaller tyre - so the diamiter of the tyre is the same. Going from standard 16" wheels to 18" wheels the size is out by about 2 to 3%, or 1mph when driving at 30mph - as long as you get the right tyres :)

45mm drop is a lot, i'm running around 35-40mm and it's quite low, you will have to look out for any speedbumps and be very carefull when getting any garage work done (sometimes the ramps are to high for the car!!!).

So when the car goes in for MOT, when its get tested for brakes on the rollers? will the bottom hit? eg.g engine sump, exhaust on the floor when the wheel is sunk in?

I know on my car they had about 2mm clearance when putting the car on the brake-test thingy for the MOT... had to move it real slow so it did not bounce and cause damage!!!

But then again i trust the local dealers, and they are always asking whats been done to the car since the last time it's been in :)
