You will do, the light comes on when a regen has failed AND the DPF is over 45 or 50% blocked.

Under general conditions the DPF will regen away quite happily and the idea is you'd never really know about it... As long as you're doing regular motorway/a-road driving.

Nope only the once

And it isnt happy atall, the car shakes and rumbles like an old tractor. we use VW'S with DPF in work and its nothing like what the beefa is like

like i say i dont think it is all ibizas as there are quite a few people with the 2L FR TDI's including me who have no problems at all i beleive it is isolated to the 1.6. It is also not down to being cheaper DPFs or the fact that they are SEAT, its simply a design or build fault which wasnt intended. As long as SEAT get their finger out and sort it out then im sure this will soon be forgotten and the dreaded DPF will no longer be as dreaded :)

Just though i would give an update of my car. Nearly 3 months old and 3500 miles on the clock. Lots of town driving and still no DPF light. The car does regenerate itself quite often, when it regenerates the car engine is louder at idle and almost shakes the car slightly with its uneven idling.

The funny thing is, it does regen cycles nearly everytime i go on a longer faster motorway journey. Driving at 70mph clogs it up quicker and the car has to do an active regen even though i have had plenty of miles at 70mph to allow a passive regen. I can tell if it is doing an active regen as revs are high when i idle at traffics lights once i have left the motorway.

Fuel economy seems to be improving by around 10%. Quite easily get 55 mpg around town. 70 mph mpg is still the same as town driving though. Baffles me, as motoryway mpg has been miles better on all my previous used cars. I am going to be patient and see if it really does take 10 - 20 000 miles to break in this new engine. Fingers crossed my 1.6 tdi cr will be able to do 70 mpg on long journys.

hi guys, im sick to the back teeth with the problems i've had caused by DPF. Had my brand new 1.6 tdi for 12 months now, and had the light come on 4 times. First time it came on for no reason, had to be reset. Second time they said it was a faulty sensor, third time it came on for bt 5 min then went off. Now it came on and i took it on an hours journey, bt 80 mile round trip, driving exactly the way i shud to regenerate it. But still the light was on.
So just had it in at the garage where i bought it, lookers, and they said there was no fault. They also said it was 85% saturated, yet i had no loss of power and no engine management light which is supposed to happen at 75% saturation.
Oy yeah then they billed me 95 quid for a forced regeneration, saying that the warranty doesnt cover it. Im thinking they are bullsh*ting me, because it say in their seat advice dpf leaflet you should only have to pay if the filter need replacing. Any thoughts?

Software upgrade

4500 miles now in almost 9 months DPF been on 7 times. The last coulple of times I have taken advice from this forum and drove the car at over 2200rpm when the light is on, this has cleared in 10 miles instead of the 20 to 25 miles previously, still a pain but a lot better. It has always cleared. I cannot get my head around why it will not clear under normal motorway driving speeds. I contacted my dealer last week and informed them I was going to contact Seat UK to complain about the DPF as I did not think my car was fit for purpose. I was told to bring the car in as there was a software mod that should help. This I did they had the car for 2 days. They experiance problems installing this software and had to speak with the Germans to get it sorted. They told me the existing software had conflicts in it. This is now sorted, we will see. Really pleased with the car but it will have to go if this stupid DPF blockage persists.

Done 6500 miles in my 1.6 CR TDI now and to date had no DPF lights. I have only noticed the car do a regen once at about 3500 miles.
I tend to wonder if there is a difference between the launch model (2009) cars and the 2010 model year. I only suggest this as most people that are having problems seem to have the earlier model cars?

Done almost 20k now and never had a DPF light come on yet, i am wondering if ithe light works at all reading this thread!! I usually notice the regen at least once a week but i do 80 miles a day with half being on motorways so reckon most of the soot burning happens there.

My 1.6 TDI is 6 months old and I've done just over 5000 miles. I've not had a single problem with the DPF to date. Mine tends to regenerate roughly once a week. I do a lot of short trips daily with work too. I'm getting about 55MPG on average out of a tank of fuel so quite satisfied.

2009 1.6 tdi CR - approx 22,000 miles - dpf light has come on about 8 times since i got it - engine nearly ran out of oil due to a faulty turbo oil feed pipe - oil levels seem fine since

would like a dpf removal so that i can get more power....

I have just got a new SC 1.6TDI Sport and had to take it back to the dealer after 400 miles as I could smell burning, the engine was running at 1000rpm at tick over and was sounding like a bag of nails.

Dealer said everything was OK. Now I know it was a DPF regen. Perhaps I should get the dealer to read this forum.

Thanks guys for your font of knowledge.

In this weather mine idles at about 1K for quite a while, if it starts getting lumpy though it sounds like an active regen, when this starts on mine I just keep it in a low gear trying to keep the revs above 2K, so far it clears after about 10 minutes. Not easy to do this in this weather though.

Done just over 1000 miles in less than 4 weeks from new, regular mix of short and long trips. Never had a warning light for anything. BUT...

Other posts say that if the idle speed is 1000rpm its doing a regen. I thought it was idling at 1000rpm when the engine was cold.

It seems to idle at 1000rpm for a very long time, is it actually doing a regen? If it is I don't know how many it has done. There has only been one occasion that I noticed the 1000rpm idle was causing the car to shake.

Would regens contribute towards the appauling mpg. Best I can do is 41mpg and I'm trying very hard to get good economy, that's why I bought the car. The trip computer says the average is about 50mpg but I always keep records and it really is only 41mpg.

It actually has the WORST consumption of ANY diesel car I have EVER owned. I will be posting about my consumption after further (probably pointless) discussions with SEAT.

When the engine is cold it does idle at about 1000rpm.
You will know when its doing a regen as the engine sounds really rough.
My MPG has dropped on average about 10mpg since we have had the cold spell of weather. In the summer I can happily get 55mpg without trying. I did a 300mile trip at the start of the summer this year and got an average of 69.9mpg on the way back, just stuck it on cruise control at 60-65mph all the way home.
So I would wait till we get some warmer weather and I am sure you will see a much better return.

Thanks for the reply.

Hank, you quoted 69.9mpg average on a long trip and gaffer1986, you quoted 55mpg around town. Are these the trip computer readings or do you calculate the actual mpg?

As I said my trip says 50mpg but in reality it's only 41mpg. Other cars trip computers have always been reasonably accurate but this one is reading almost 25% higher than actual. If you calculate your mpg how does it compare with your trip computer reading?

If the trip computers are accurate and my engine is actually achieving around 50mpg where is all of the extra fuel going that is not being recorded in the trip computers calculations!

I did a 600 mile round trip to London & back. On the way down cruising at 60mph the computer showed 64mpg, on the way back cruised at 65mph consumption on computer showed 61mpg
A number of people on various forums state you have to rev the 1.6 a bit more to get better fuel economy, the figures above disprove that. 60mph = 1750 rpm, 65 is just short of 1900rpm.
My trip down was 300 miles non stop and the car would not match the official combined figure. My old 1.6TDCi Fiesta would have averaged 75mpg @ 60mph!!!! AND did not have all the hassle of the DPF & it's dreaded regens!!

:confused:Not wanting to sound like a "Party Pooper" but i have had my Mk 2 Leon TDI FR since October of this year and so far touch wood, I have NEVER had my light on. I dont know why, as sometimes i'm a lazy git and take my car to work and back which is less than 1 mile each way..! The only problem i am aware of is that sometimes the car feels like it is trying to "slow down" which is intermittent and only occasionally. Not sure if this is linked but as i say, NO DPF light yet.
