Alloy Wheel Cleaner

Ok, I've been to a few hand car washes recently and they spray something onto the alloys first and wash off a few mins later.

Now this stuff doesn't seem to need any rubbing of the alloys and leaves the alloys spotless.

So the question is what is it that they use and where can you buy it as I'm a lazy git when it's comes to cleaning the car!

Oh and I've used MC2 and know about the Virosol stuff from Jantastic but with this stuff you need to scrub!

Probably wonder wheels mate, you can get 5 litres from Costco for about 10 pounds.

Its a very good product but exercise caution as it has a high acidic content which may harm coated/painted alloys.

........also if you have red calipers, it turns them a luurvly shade of pink!!!! heard that some guys use 'muc off' from halfords, which i believe is in the bike section...

It'll be a high-acid content spray (wonderwheels or some stronger trade varient) and it'll be 4ucking up your wheels.

Yeah you can spray it on and wash off, but obviously it wont do as good a job as an acid based one. As the others have said they will be using one with high acid content.

I use P21S stuff and it works pretty well, but still have to use some elbow grease to get off the stubborn stuff. Tis the only way without using and aggressive cleaner I beleive.

if you wax your wheels the crap and dust won't stick to the rim as much and it'll come off much easier.......i have used a power washer on the rims before and this cleaned them well, even with out any actual cleaner.....did the rest of the car by hand, get your hands dirty and use an old sponge!!!!!!!!!!!

Soapy water and a good sponge, i find, works better than any acccids or othewr products i have ever bought!

Ive tried wonder wheels, Auto Glym stuff, i find if i just use soapy water and a sponge and scrub hard, they shine very bright. No body else find this? The acid i thinkis too corrosive.

I use muck off or hot soapy water never had problems with brake dust.


On the subject of cleaning wheels I was reading through the R booklet in my LCR manual and it says to treat the wheels with hard wax every couple of months. What do they mean by hard wax??

Solid wax, rather than liquid stuff from a bottle. Simoniz do a good Carnuaba wax. I got mine from a local Autoshop, dont know if they still stock it though. Halfrauds havnt had any in in a LONG time, dont think they sell it anymore.

I clean the wheels using elbow grease once a month and use poor boys wheel wax after, its great.

then just using a sponge and water washes off all the dirt when you clean the car normally.

Anyone know a good method of getting rid of pitted in brake dust! I fooking hate my wheels I clean then regularly with a wheel brush and car shampoo but there is some dust that seems to have welded itself to the wheel.

Need a good product or method to get rid of this.

Must admit i used Dp Wheel Glaze for the first time last week, and they came up a treat, I also noticed a week on, they still look clean, and the dirt doesnt seem to stick as much

i use tescos wheel cleaner.spot on and for£1.47 you cant fall off.dont take much scrubbing either.

On my dad's TT he gets like black speckles which I can never budge, and also turns a slight shade of yellow which is worrying. Any ideas?

I find using a jetwash to get the worst off the wheels, then leave them dry, then use halfords own brand wheel cleaner works everytime. Doesnt seem to work if the wheels are wet.

MC2 has now been exposed as rebadged "Virusol". Regardless of your opinions on this re-badging malarky, it's still a top notch wheel cleaner and can be purchased very cheaply. (Do a search for Virusol).

It'll shift both of your symptoms above with a little agitation.

I get mine from Olympic Cleaning. They're quite close to me so I just drive there, but they do mail order as well.
