Well lads I keep getting a fault code off the alternator comes up in both engine and ent elc. It doesn't cause any probles and has been replaced so I know the alternator is fine, but still I get this fault code, the connectors are all good on it etc. When I was in HHH motor sport getting my tyres put back on (didnt have a tyre iron), I was also getting the price for a revo remap and the did a quick vag check and found the fault code.

He did say however that he had an ibiza in before, with exactly the same fault and they rang seat who at first denied there was any known faults but later when they took the car to seat found a recall part and said there was a modification kit for the wiring to stop this flagging up. Apparantly when the revo lad tested the last alternator, it only droped for like a fraction of a second.

Has anyone heard of this before, as I certainly havent. But if the moddification is easy enough to do and is cheap, I think I will get my hands on it.

I've never come across any issues on either of my TDI's nor my Dad on either of his with the alternator - seems strange if you say it still happens with another alternator though.

yer, I thought it was weird that the alternator was new when I bought the car yet fault codes flag up, but this guy knew before he scanned it that it was a common fault thats why he checked.

It has been known on some Ibiza and Fabia TDIs (mine included) for the wiring to break at one of the connectors in the alternator wiring loom.
Trace the wiring back from the alternator, it passes through a connector block mounted on the front of the gearbox (hard to see, easier from underneath).

The wires can get corroded and break off on side of the connector. The loom will never have to come out again so I just soldered in a bypass link on the affected wire.

Got to be worth a look, but you need to get quite close to the connector to see properly.
