I have a problem with my gti. When i get up to 70mph or over have some real bad vibration coming through the wheel. The wheels are balanced and weights still on. Have just had a four wheel alignment but it is still doing it. I have been told 2 other possibles are driveshaft and the other being the diff bearing.
How can i check if either if these are the problem
Can anyone think of any other possible causes

Any Ideas

Cheers Mike

Other causes could be, buckled wheel, or tyre out of shape. Have you had the wheels re-balanced just to make sure?

I had the same issue. Had the wheels balanced twice at the same place and it was still vibrating. Took it to another garage to get balanced and now it looks likes its sorted (need to test it properly yet, but had it up to 70mph and there was no vibration :D

jack it up so the wheel is off the deck, grab the wheel and give it a good shack to see if there is any play in the bearing.
i did this on my sisters old style mini cus she had a similar problem, turns out only 1 of the wheel bolts was tight and all the rest just came out by hand......

Mmm. Just went for a drive. At 70mph no vibration but past that up to 80-85mph its vibrating. Not as bad as it was before but its still there. Think ill change the wheels round Put the back wheels on the front and vice versa) and see if that makes a difference.
Gutted, really thought it was sorted.

So got my mate to rebalance the front wheels and it is still doing it. Its really odd cos sometimes i will drive it and there is no vibration and other times it will. I do have aftermarket wheels on.. what will spigot rings do?

Spigot rings make sure the wheel sits flush with the hub.

Have checked my wheels tonight and can see that i have no spigot rings on there. The wheel slides up and down on the hub so have measured up and bought some from fleabay.
Are they easy to fit?

try tightening the wheel nuts correctly and in the right order - see if it helps any

or better still swap tyres around and see if the vibration moves

How can i tell if my tyre is warped/dodge? Would it have to be done at a garage or is there something i can spot myself? Trying to eliminate potential issues causing my vibration
