On a private road I have seen the needle at 140. Still pulling slightly too, true speed is more like 135-137. Bottled it after that as I'm more concered about the damage it might have on the engine/car! That was before my remap, might go even more now! Will have to have no passengers, light fuel load and take out the spare wheel and tools in the boot...might hit the magic 150...
But I also value my licence too much...;)

i had mine off the clock at 160 still going but cant tell you how true that is or what speed it really was. But it was faster than i used to get the bikes

lol at this thread, but yea i have had mine off the clock where 165 would be!

at bruntingthorpe airstrip (http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=103014) i hit a TRUE 152.7mph and the needle was bang on 160mph!... (shame the strip is only 2miles long! dont forget you have to brake and take the corner before the bend so in reality i only had about 1.25 miles to hit a top speed! excuses excuses lol)

so therefore id say at an indicated 165 my car is doing about 155mph.

i have one cracking pic of the speedo at an indicated 155mph (again private road!) but this was before my remap, just had the full exhaust system, FMIC and induction done then... and it took a hell of a lot longer to get there!

EDIT:
i know of 2 other stage 2 LCR owners who swear they have both seen 163 and 164 on their road angels before, with the speedo completely off the clock where the millage is shown!!! though despite being my m8s i find it hard to believe... maybe it was down hill wind behind and VERY cold?! ;)

Form having been out in Mitchy's LCR I wouldn't be surprised if that went well off the clock... it seemed to hit an indicated 150mph without even trying.

... even more so now!

that's cheating, if you take out the spare wheel:p

Back from the dead
From what I hear its not a good place to be, at that kind of speed the front of the LCR gets very light, and I think its been mentioned on here that if you try and brake too hard from that kind of speed the back end can get quite unsettled (and potentially end up coming round).

The LCR is a very competant car at getting to speeds of 120mph (particulalry when modded), but ultimately we are talking about a family hatchback that on OE running gear just isn't up to successfully wiping off the kind of speed that may be required in real world circumstances.

Would the long straight on the Nurburgring be long enough to get the max out of the LCR, or do they use that straight as part of the feed on / feed off for cars that use the track (unlike the GT4 pitlane arrangement)?

Supercars have low centre of gravities, and big aero packages for a reason. You may be able to fold the mirrors in on the LCR automatically to give some aero advantage, but it doesn't make it a supercar! I appreciate the WTCC cars and the BTCC cars can do it but they're 300kgs lighter, on slicks, and running brakes that could stop the earth turning.

By all means have a go in the right space and off public roads, but be warned that the car loses a shedload of its composure over 130.

high warren!

when i was at bruntingthorpe air stip... braking at a real 153mph is quite scary and the brakes certainly didn't like it (think of the heat!!!) but all the same coped better than i expected!

as for the front end getting light... i must admit i THINK* i almost felt it get ever so slightly lighter... something i haven't felt before! but then again my car is lowered on coilovers which without a doubt makes the LCR feel a lot more planted on the road, especially at high speeds!

so i guess at these sort of speeds on a OEish LCR it would be a different story?!

something that makes me worry now i think about it!

You need to use your noggin and be sensible on the brakes at high speed. If you slam them on your asking to do numerous 360 degree turns:D ;) A bit of firm cadence braking i think is the best way to get down as quickly as possible!

I have seen 156 GPS, speedo indicating where 165-170 would be marked.

It may have crept up a couple more mph but revs were running out. I was @ 6800-6900rpm at this speed and nitrous was helping me along!

There is no way on standard gearing an LCR going past a true 160mph. On speedo yes, in real mph no!

IMO anyway seeing as ive been up at that top end quite a few times as i used to live on an airbase with a huge unused straight:)

i've seen 150 on my LCR clock, but seen about 157 on my mates LCR and both are standard when we did that.

i was once in a situation of doing maybe 120ish - concentrating on driving tbh to know the real speed and having to brake hard to about 50 and even with engine braking it wasn't a nice feeling :-o didn't think i was going to slow down enough in time, but luckily did ;)

Yes with enough road, the standard car should hit 160mph on clocks eventually with a downhilled slope.

But god does it take a lot of time:blink:

you can say that again!

IMHO the LCR is best from 100mph plus, thats when it finds it legs imo.

and the difference between an OE LCR and a stage 2 LCR from 100 onwards is a lot!

it used to take years to get from 100 - 140 but now its seconds...

god wat must IHI be like!

TBH I've never tried and I doubt I ever would even on a private road. The idea of going that fast in a car scares me silly. Especially after what I've just read. I'd much rather be on a motorbike at that speed !! At least you know modern sports bikes are going to stop in a straight line from 140mph, (even on stock stoppers).
