looking at exchanging my stock ecu for an apr one looked at it and looks easy enough haas anyone had any problems on changing there ecu.Does the map still work after being unpluged as i read something about hat before on here or is that sh**te.

IIRC if you swap an APR ECU over it'll 'work' but only in stock mode until you unlock it.

PIN available from the documentation you received when you bought it.

yer, to activate the emcs you need the pin (the code you use for "lock out" on the cruise stalk)

just spoke to awesome regarding this, they advised to check ecu codes, if last 2 digits off ecu code are the same then happy days, streight swap will do matey

and even if it's not they'll physically fire up. but you will need the PIN and suitable input device (cruise stalk) to enter it into performance mode

else you'll just have bought something utterly useless

so he needs a cruise stalk to get this ecu working???? how crap is that, awesome didnt say anything about a cruise stalk? im so confused now

mork, is their not anything that can be done with vagcom? is this just a APR issue as i havnt heard any of this for revo ecu's etc .....

didnt speak to jim when i foned, they did advise to fone back on mondy and speak to him to confirm

If you pull the power to teh ECU (EMCS.... not Serial port that Awesome are familiar with) then the ECU will lock into stock mode...

To get it out, you need to unlock it by cruise stalk

I'll revise that... if the original owner bought the security lockout & additional programs - which most did.

right, that makes sence, so its when it physically loses power it "locks" into standard mode

maybe this may be a no goer then ..............

cheers mork

when i bought the car it had the map already on it, dont know what additional programs are on their, how can i found out? (without foning awesome again)
is their a way in vagcom/vtune i can find out what programs are on their?

just got back off the fone to awesome

they have clarified that you only need to use the cruise stalk and pin if you have extra programs put on and you yourself has a cruise stalk, with the 2nd program activated, when unplugged the ecu switches back into stock mode, and only the stalk and pin can unlock this

however, without any other program on the ecu apart from mapping, you can swap out a apr ecu with another one without the need of a cruise stalk, and all you need to do is follow the instructons on the ross-tech website

all you need to make sure is that the 2 last letters of the ecu code match up, ie - AA
