Just wondering.. my car was built last week, and my dad spoke to the dealers to see if we could come up and sort out picking a number plate. And he got the reply 'we dont give lists of available number plates anymore, each car is assigned a number plate' anyone been told this?

some dealerships let you, some dont. They all should IMO but thats not the case =/
Cars are definately not assigned a number plate from seat, maybe from the dealership though...

My experience is that it depends on the dealer, some will and some won't, as a result have got a personal plate for £250 from DVLA. Downside is £80 to transfer from one car to another.

Small price topay especially if your gunna keep it for the rest of your life. mine sayin EL10 TMC was 600. Luckily it was a 10plate :)

But the DVLA have now withdrawn all plate with EL10T on because they can auction them as it spells Eliot :)

My dealer told me I could pick my plate. 2 days ago!!! I want a personal plate too, £400 for JC10 BOC my initials the year and obviously boc for bocanegra heheheheheheehhe. has decided against it as if I sell the car in the future and don't get another boc I have wasted £400 on a plate no one else may need.

My dealer stuck my plates on with double sided sticky pads, think it does look better than screws, but they're probably easier to steal.

I didn't get a choice either, just got given BFZ 6836 - which is the current series for Belfast - interestingly DAZ would have been the series for Belfast somewhere round 1993 - 1994.

If I get a private plate it will be for me not the car so I can keep it, T3 CHE would do me :)

I wanted GT1 0ONK which would look like GTi DONK (Donkin is my second name). Due to my dealer not wanting to hold my car for 3 weeks so I could get a ‘10’ plate I went for a plate personal to the car. This way since the car was registered in 2010 even though its 59 plate it can still be advertised as a 2010 car when I come to sell it. I can also get the plate valued too see how much its worth. Only paid £250 for it so i’m hoping it will go up in value once DVLA cotton onto the fact that it relates to a car. This is why plates with PUG, CUP or CTR usually cost quite a bit more.
