hi all,

im thinking of buying a 4chanel amp and 4 new speakers. My current speakers and the 4 tweeters are plugged into the iso connecector on the back of the headunit. My head unit has preamp outputs, so if i use the preamp outputs to a 4 channel amp for the main speakers, will the iso connector still send audio to the tweeters?

bit difficult to explain but hope u see wot i mean!!!

Depends how you wire it up really.

If you leave the tweeters "as is" it should still send the output there and you can connect the mid/bass speakers to the amp.

Why do you want to do this?

If you buy a set of component speakers to replace the standard ones, they will come with a passive crossover, so you can run the tweeter and midrange off of one channel on the amp.

Running it from the head unit would make it sound terrible. The speakers will have been designed to work as a pair, with specific crossover points that the passive crossover will dictate. If you run the tweeter off the head unit you will need to find a way of high passing it at the same point as the passives would have done, or else you'll be sending a full range signal (high, mid and low range signals) to a speaker that can only play the high range stuff.

Unless you have a very good reason and a lot of time to get this working perfectly, it's a terrible idea. Even if you do get it working well, you will be no better off than simply running the speakers from the passive crossover that comes with them!

Visit site
simple test unplug the origional woofer in doors and see if it still playing highs through tweeters. thought there was a small crossover on the door that splits the signal to the woofer and tweeter if so then it will be fine you will just have the task of getting fresh wire though to feed new speakers

Basically what I was gonna say,
You would need to run an extra cable into the doors. Would be better to just find an aftermarket set of components and run them from your amp.

I have run the standard speakers from an Alpine 4 channel amp. It seems to improve the sound quality. Have also put 2 12inch subs in the boot. Cant fault the sound.

There's no point upgrading the speakers and then leaving the standard tweeters, it'll sound crap and any speakers you buy should come with a replacement tweeter...

Then again if you're thinking of buying from the website you've posted then I wouldn't bother at all. It'll sound worse than the standard system

They sell cheapo rip-offs of very old kit by alpine, dragster and the like. It'll be horrible...

My advice, if you're looking at upgrading the sounds in your Leon, would be to start with the front speakers only and a decent amp for them. There is no need to change the rear speakers yet, so put the money you would have spent on them into buying better front speakers.

Get yourself a 2 channel amp to run them and some decent quality cables, interconnects and other installation bits and bobs.

Rear speakers will be fine as they are, as most if not all of your sound should come from the front speakers. Rear speakers are for rear passengers and a bit of ambiance only, so there is no point in investing toooo much money in them. And they certainly do not need to be amped - head unit power will be more than enough.

Put the money you would have spent on upgrading the rear speakers into the same pot as the front speakers and get the best kit you can.

Also, don't forget that ICE is more about the installation than the kit you use... so get some sound deadening on those front doors while you're at it ;)

How easy is it to change the front speakers + tweeters in the Leon? Do you have to take the whole door panel off as that's never been fun in any of my previous cars (always ended with rattles :().
