  • Me - amongst loads of others
  • Serial RS232 OBD2 cable
  • VDS Pro and a little research.

Re Windows 7 compatibility, why don't you partition your drive and put XP on it.

Forgive me but there's tons of stuff online about this key remote mod, tons of it. Try looking on this forum for a basic start and perhaps TDIClub for further afield. There is literally stacks of info - type 'VDS Pro' in this forum's search field and even Google 'vds pro windows mod'? Good luck :)

vcds wont work, it has to be done via vagcom DOS . with programming that could potentially bog your car, why not just do it the proper and easy way, buy the KVW100 unit and have it done in seconds. or wait till the software that support the car becomes available from motordiag but who know how long that could take, i will end up buying the plug-in.

Because that way it costs £40 and blocks you from entering the CCM again. As stated above. People have said that it works so il give it a go. Anyways this way free (software) so wat cn i lose.

you can lose your ECU if done incorrectly, as i said it can block it if you programme it wrong. so something thats free could potenially cost you hundreds of ££££ , not having a dig at you mate but trying to advise you, unless your confident in what your doing, you could break your car.

I have to say, while yes there is a potential of completely messing things up, unless you are a complete muppet it's not that bad. A bit of careful typing when you enter the various addresses and it's perfectly safe. The software has a 'read only' mode that you use first to get the original values, so if it all goes wrong you can just set the values back to the original ones.

Personally I wouldn't buy the plug in unit, not being able to access the CCM is a significant failure in my opinion and you lose the ability to check for any faults as well as access the comfort features (remote beep, selective door unlocking etc). The Czech stuff is obviously the best, safest and cheapest option, but as you say it's not for everyone. I consider VDS pro as being the second best option, with KVW100 a distant third.

PM me an email address and I'll send you over a burnable image for VDS Pro. Write it to a CD then get your laptop to boot from it. It's only about 500k so not big at all.
