Anyone used this and reckon it's any good? Was in Halfords for some drying towels and microfibre cloths today for the first car wash of the year and picked up some of the above. As directed, applied some to wet tyres after washing the car. Now the tyres just look dull and mucky, not clean, dark and shiny.

Is there a knack to using this stuff? Have I just not used enough (it did say "apply liberally" on the bottle)? Anyone recommend an alternative?

Got some for my brother for xmas he says it works well and lasts a while. i use a meguiars gel and is far the best product ive used and a similar price. Not the spray one thought...thats not so good.

use the autoglym tyre dressing now and again but i find it too messy as it goes all over the wheel so have to re clean the wheels. i use megs tyre gel the most much better results and lasts weeks not days plus it smells great

agree with you on the messy bit

i have gloss black alloys and even a slight bit of dirt makes them look bad

when i apply the autoglym tyre dressing it goes on my wheels

and this attracts dust from the road when you are driving them

i just use the sponge methods

just spray the liquid into the sponge and then rub the tyres works a treat trust me mate much better way and you still get the shame result

I just sprayed the Autoglym stuff on the tyres so the sidewall was pretty well covered, then wiped the excess off the wheels. Maybe the tyre wasn't clean enough, maybe I didn't use enough of the product, not sure. Oh well, was only a fiver, next time I'll be much more liberal and see if it makes any difference but thanks all for the Meguiars Gel tip, I'll get that next time.

With any trye dressing you need to make sure the tyres are clean. use wheel cleaner on the tyre walls and a stiff brush to work out the dirt.

If you are finding that the dressing is messy to use, just apply it in a different way, use a sponge applicator or paint brush to apply it rather than the spray.

I use this:

Easily lasts a month or so when applied properly.

the autoglym spray i was given by a mate so for free i aint complaining, looking at another one so may try the meguairs stuff. the autoglym does need clean tyre walls and i apply it using a normal sponge for washing up and it does improve it

I use the MarkV California Dressing stuff Rubbishboy sells, spraying it onto one of those 12p a pack sponges from the supermarket (Not using the scourer side!) then don't feel like I have wasted a posh applicator getting it all dirty and I can just bin it after I'm done. I'm happy with the look :)

8 bit i rate this product very highly. I used it a while ago until it ran out then started using Meguires tyre spray. Although this one was very good, it came out like a bolt and not spray, so i was continuously wiping off the car and alloys.

The Autoglym stuff i think is magic. The mistake maybe you made is putting it on a wet tyre. Apply liberally to a dry tyre wall, obviously it runs white but just quickly wipe the alloys clean...and it dries black (very black) i love it.

Cheers dude, yeah I did give it another shot the last time I washed the car. I still applied to wet tyres but I used it a lot more liberally than before. Had to keep wiping it off the wheels a few times afterwards but once it had dried it looked a lot better than last time. It's still looking pretty good after about two weeks, even when the roads are wet and mucky.

Took this shot the morning after applying the stuff, not the best (phone camera) but looks pretty decent.

It also works well on the black trim such as the splitter, grills etc and the under bonnet plastics, although for them I spray it on a cloth or sponge first then apply.

Oh and it deffo works better and blacker if the tyres are clean too ;)

Top man, cheers :) Yeah I washed the wheels and tyres specially last time just to give it the best shot :) I'll have a go on the splitter next time too. Will give it a shot on the engine cover etc. but I'll need to pluck up the courage to clean the rest of the engine bay - water and most of the stuff under there don't mix...

It works nicely on the coolant and boost hoses too, basically anything that's either the black plastic or a hose comes up nicely. Even the cooling fans get a shot of it!

I've found the Megs foam applicator pads are good along the splitter, saves putting too much on.
