Looking to rebuild my AYP engine soon and I have a list of all the components that are generally checked/replaced during a rebuild but I'd greatly appreciate it if any of you guys could go over everything I need parts wise so I'm not forgetting anything, cheers.

Last time i rebuilt my engine I did all seals and gaskets, core plugs, shells/bearings, piston rings, stem seals, water pump, oil pump if applicable. Also regrind valves and get your cylinders honed, I also had my head skimmed slightly.

after I rebuilt it and took it for a test drive I was absolutely speechless, the difference in power was amazing

good luck with build.

Valve regrind you do yourself mate, very easy but time consuming, you will need some grinding paste (£3-£5) and a grinding stick/tool (£5) you can do it by hand or use a drill...im sure there will be some vids on youtube somewhere.

Last honing I had done cost me £60 and I got a corsa head skimmed last week for £35, you need to take them to an engineering shop, google sesrch head skim in your area and chances are they will do honing and if you can't be bothered with the grinding they will probably do that to, also if youve got the money they will do all the dismantling and rebuilding of the head.

I like to do as much as I can myself though, 1- satisfaction of knowing I built it, properly
2- the last time I let someone else do it the idiot fitted a tappet upside down and so I had to strip and rebuild it again myself anyway lol
