I agree with Mark's comments as I checked with APR regarding the oil restrictor issue as many on Vortex were fitting them. I haven't put one on my car as advised by APR but since the re build I find there is no oil smoke issue 'except' if the car sit's on idle for over 15-20 mins it can puff initially but is soon burnt off when driven.

Everyday usage is fine but it was worse prior to the rebuild due to worn valve stem oil seals.

Mark, do you offer a 'lifetime' warranty on your manifolds? It was something that really pusuaded me when Guy in Australia offered this on his APR manifold design for RHD configuration....gives peace of mind re cracking issues.

Its difficult to offer a warranty on items like this as we sell them in complete kits, base kits and individual parts and we cant control what people do with them. However, we were running the GT2871R kit on the race TT at 2.5 bar to see how far we could push it and we still cant damage anything! We regularly dismantle the race kit and engine to test for problems. The exhaust manifold has been on there for 3 years now. Its been sent away for crack tests but we have failed to brake it. The very high nickel content is the key as it fuses the cast in one piece.

I would prefer to sell a manifold that doesnt crack than give a warranty to replace ones that do!

Regards
Mark

Sorry Alex-over to you sir!

I fitted a resrictor to mine when i did the GT2871R conversion as it was supplied by ATP with the turbo.

I have also fitted quite a few kits to Honda's etc and ALL of them came with a restrictor and the instructions said the Resrictor MUST be used to avoid turbo seal failure.

Never seen a failure when using one only when one isn't fitted have i seen a failure with a BB turbo.

they do the roller bearing ones yes.
dear mind.

£195 plus VAT for uprated cage assembly from Turbo Dynamics....pretty reasonable.

They informed they normally fit them for extreme race applications and EGT's over 1000c:blink:

suprised you went to owens are they sponsers?

why surprised?
i raced against mark in combe saloons, got chatting with him as you do and he mentioned they did these uprated bearings so i went with theirs. sent them the new turbo i had and they rebuilt it with their bearings, rebalanced it etc.

he's always given sound advise.

Arrh ok you sourced the turbo from the states and got owens to uprate it.Yes Mark knows his stuff.Hopefully be ready soon?

Whats the deal with the spec clutches as my standard clutch has gone and i will be putting an uprated item back in. What is the best clutch to go for. And alex when are u going to take me out in th beast so i can see what the big turbo kit is like before i come and buy one

Even though im going to still be running a Spec clutch, i dont like them for the fact of their customer service and mine broke. There are plenty of people using Spec with no problems, but i know the way you drive so im just not sure. Give me a call so i can go through a few things with you.

I will hopefully have the my new friction plate today.

Its alive again. I got the new clutch on yesterday and fitted it last nite. This was how i left the car about 4 weeks ago:

I can safely say the new clutch is fine so far and no more harsh than the stage 3+. I just hope it lasts. Hooch and i are off to the land of Pod to do some runs on Sat (weather permitting) so i will see how it lasts and who's gearbox goes first

Alex

Nope. I asked about a full kit with flywheel before i found it was just the plate that went. I went straight to Spec to get them to sort the issue. This is the stage 4+. Its not one they advertise.

Well im pretty happy with my results seeing as its not finally mapped yet and i also have a flat spot, but not the same issue as Hooch.

My best time at Pod was 13.0 which im happy with. I kept trying to get better but i was getting bored waiting in the que for ages for each run and by the time i got to go i wasnt in the mood. It was just a 13.4 after 13.4 after that.

The car got 356.4 bhp and 308.2 lbft on a 5th gear run and 346.8 bhp and 331.0 lbft on a 4th gear run. Thats only running a 1.4 bar hold too!
