bacteria etc in vents or something like this... smell usually goes away, or you can get some treatments where you put the system on re-circ and set off a spray inside the care.

OR... who changed the pollen filter? its very common for it to be fitted incorrectly so the cover over the pollen filter doesnt cover it properly. When it rains it gets wet. So the fact a new pollen filter has been fitted could actually be the problem..

get an AIR-CON-BOMB its a deoderiser canister put air con on full and recirculation let it off in passengers footwell shut all doors and leave it for 10 mins the open all dors boot etc and leave for 20 mins sorted

Changed it myself mate flipping pain in the a** to get the rubber to sit right it's only for the first couple of minutes it smells then it's grand ...

never herd off these "AIR-CON-BOMB".i also have a bad smell after useing the air con then trurning it off.where can i get one off these bombs?

i've not seen them labelled as 'air con bomb', but I know the thing he's on about. Look for aircon deoderiser or disinfectant, and read the description where they should talk about the 'bomb' action. As he says, you get everything warmed up in the car, get the aircon running on full recirculate, set the thing off and let it get everywhere (windows will mist up, may get some on the carpets, etc), then open everything and let it evaporate. They're extremely effective and will get everywhere in the system.

Edit: Actually, a quick search on Ebay brings back 'air con bomb', http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180689436780
