Battery Woes

SCC have been back in touch.
Apparently there is a known issue with Model Year 2009 cars, but as mine is a 2010, the technical department were surprised to hear that a Bocanegra was having problems.
Anyway, the Seat technical team are working with the dealer to investigate various things. Fingers crossed we can get something resolved...
UPDATE: I spoke to the dealer, and with Seat Technical help, they managed to find a part of the car that required a software update. Unfortunately, by the time I got there to collect the car, the service staff had left, so there was no-one to speak to in depth about what they had done.
Hopefully this means that the problem will go away, but the annoying thing about this kind of problem, is I'll never really know if it's fixed until the battery drains, at which point I know it isn't fixed

Hi Everyone
had my Seat SC which is on a 58 plate back into the main dealer on the 31 july for the upgrade to stop the battery going flat when the car is being left.Anyway when i collected the car two weeks ago the Technician said the the upgrade had been installed and the ampage now was down to 2milly amps instead of the previous 5milly amps.So i parks the car up at home goes on my hols and comes back 2weeks later.opens the car with remote,i switched radio on,jeez the radio came on instead of battery low.So the i put the key in the ignition and the car started,,,,,,,,,,,could not believe it.After 2 years could my battery woes be over??

not happy
took car in yesterday morning
not heard anything from them by lunch time today so i phone - no one availible
call back half an hour ago puts me through goes to find out and then forgets about me been put on hold
get told low voltage on the battery nothing wrong with it but we need it over night again to make sure its charged
they said they will phone tomorrow sometime and then i said i need the car for 12 to go to work
only trouble is my mum has got the chimney sweepers coming at 9am and doesnt no how long it will take
do you think they should have phoned me for an update or do you think something else.

You need to phone seat Uk and register the battery problem 0500 222222 as i said before they take all the details of the car and phone the garage up were the car is in and try to sort things out.If you are not happy with the garage let Seat know and take your car some were else.Remember the garage gets paid for warranty work,so don't be afraid and if you have the car on finance let the finance company know and they will defiantly sort your cars problem out.Dont let the garage bully you,They want the warrenty work that is why they spin things out.

Hi, I'm new here but have been suffering with this same battery problem all year. I have had an Ibiza SC Sport 58-plate since October 2008 and its battery has suddenly drained at least 3 times this year when left for two days or more. I use it regularly so I guess this has stopped it happening more often.
I've taken it back to my main dealer 4 times now and each time they find nothing wrong and tell me I don't do enough miles to charge the battery up.... Basically this is nonsense because none of my other cars have had battery problems doing the same journeys.
Anyway, finally today having taken it in yet again they phoned and told me that it required a software update to 'version 13' and that this would solve the problem.
Hopefully this means that SEAT is actually informing the dealers now that the update is necessary? I hadn't heard of it before but it prompted me to do an internet search and hence why I'm here.
Fingers crossed that my Ibiza will now be as reliable as a new car should be...

Hi have you informed Seat UK?If you go to my previous threads you will see the number
and everything that i went through,but if it is the same upgrade to the Seat System then touch wood.The upgrade will be fine.

Had the upgrade and everything seems ok so far...
My dealer said that Seat has sent out details of the problem, the range of chassis numbers affected and upgrade required since the end of July - but it's a shame that no one there seemed to recognise the problem when I have phoned them to report sudden battery draining (for the fourth time) or that Seat has contacted people to make them aware that the upgrade is needed.
It might be just a perception, but my car seems to be responding a bit better and pulling away more smoothly now it's had the upgrade - especially when cold. I saw that someone had reported 'lumpiness in tickover' previously and this is something I have noticed many times since I've had the car - It hasn't happened yet since the upgrade so maybe it's cured as well.

I think my car is about to die again. It's been sounding more and more sick each morning. From the struggle to start at work to come home, I guess it'll be dead tomorrow morning.

Well, the car died last night. Had to jump start it with a battery pack again. I took it for a 30min drive afterwards and it was fine. That has lasted till this morning.

In most previous cases the car had been sitting idle for a few days, or I've noticed the starter motor get steadily slower with each day (I only do short 10-15min trips to work/shops most of the time). This time the day before I'd been on a 50min drive, so there is no excuse this time, not that it was an excuse last time...
My more mechanically/practically minded boss has helped me investigate some things. We connected a multimeter to the battery and discovered when the ignition was turned off and we let the ECU sort it's life out, there remained a 750-800mA drain on the battery. The boss believes this to be very high. I haven't a clue. I was wondering what the opinion of the forum mechanics was...
The next stage of the plan would be to pull fuses until the drain disappears, thus identifying the offending system, but the weather isn't pleasant right now.

Right, after the car barely started after work (despite being absolutely fine that morning), we decided to do some more digging.
We noticed that after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, the drain was only ~100mA, which is closer to the expected value. So we turned on the ignition (didn't start engine) and then back off again, to watch the drain. After a little while at ~1400mA, it dropped to the 750-800mA it was doing last time.
It didn't seem to get any better, so we started on the fuses. Most didn't have any effect, but one fuse, no. 23, marked "Engine injection module/Rain sensor/Gear lever/Starter relay", when removed dropped the drain to just 70mA, which is spot on for what is expected. When replaced, drain remained at 70mA.
We can't think of any legitimate reason why any of the components that fuse is responsible for would have any reason to still be drawing power 20 mins after the key was removed.
But, I'm not an expert. If anyone here knows better, I'd love some advice. I'll be contacting the local dealer ASAP, and try and get one of the techies to talk to me and see if they agree with our findings.

We did get to speak to someone when the car eventually got taken in, and we were told that the problem has been acknowledged by Seat, and a software patch was the official fix. Pointing out that the car had this already we talked about the battery. He listened to our findings, but told us that Seat suggest a 4 hour wait after ignition off before testing, where we had only given it 40 mins max, so he couldn't really use what we'd found as evidence at this stage. He speculated that in all the shenanigans with the battery drain so far, the cells had become damaged and wouldn't hold charge any more. They kept it over night and tried another battery in the car. That didn't drain, so they finally got Seat to approve a battery replacement under warranty.
Anyway, a new battery was eventually fitted today, and the car seems full of energy. Fingers crossed that's the end of the matter.

This aint funny!! Not drove my car for a week because of the snow and the battery is completely DEAD, there is no power at all no lights come on etc even the central locking doesn't work, couldn't lock the passenger door because some idiot at Seat thought be funny not to add a lock pin thing on top of the door card! This second time has happen to me and tbh this is the worst one every! So i think my xmas pressie would be a engine starter pack.
