Looks like a great job. You used to be able to get, foam pads sort of mini C4 Cactus like the temp attach to your doors to prevent this but haven't seen them for years, will have a Google.

How can he demonstrate if something does happen? Also, cars come and leave...

Really sorry for what happened to you Slipps :( That's why when I park I prefer the quietest corner possible even though it means more walking.

Yeah, when I go to shop in Leeds, I park just outside Wakefield

I once to the Missus to York and parked so far out that we set off walking and never found the city centre.

As well as ignorance people who will quite happily smack their doors in to your car, I also blame the supermarkets, apart from the smaller stores, most of the time these vast carparks are half empty so the parking bays could easily be made wider if they wanted, especially as cars seem to get bigger ever year, it's much like greedy house building developers who make garages so small your have to climb out the boot if you park your car in one.

I tend to park a long way from the store or across two bays, I'm sure people will flame me for that, and im sure some will say what if everyone did that, well maybe if more people did it the supermarkets might get the message, and remember the supermarkets don't give a sh*t about your car, have you seen all their the no responsibility signs.
Plus don't forget, these car parks are not free supplied out the goodness of their hearts, you pay for then ever time you buy something in the store.

on an upbeat note though, I did manage to claim of off tescos once for damage caused by one of their trolleys to my car whilst in their car park, was a battle, but payied up they did for the repairs :)

Reading your post DW911 makes me wonder what this world is coming to?

I am not just having a go at you as plenty other people do as you do but I have to say what a selfish attitude you have.

Yes supermarket parking bays are narrow but with care and consideration I would wager most people can use them without a problem. A minority of people are careless and damage other peoples cars but in my view that does not justify taking up two parking bays.

No that's cool, I take your point, tbh was expecting to get flamed, I normally do it in the empty part of the car park, because even parking far a way in a correct bay, you are not safe, from some fuc*kwit who will come and park right next to you even in a half empty car park and whack their door into your car, but even I can see it's a little bit selfish, and im normally a far from a selfish person.
But in this case and after many years of having to pay out for dent repairs or even worse due to people who can't seem to get out their car without whacking their door into the car next to them. and it seems to now be far more than just a small minority, many on here have had it happened to them, some guy on here was even talking about knifing someone over it so it's clearly not just a minor issue anymore.

I also imagine there are very few people on here who haven't had their cars damaged at one time or another whilst in a car park?

So im now proactive in making sure my cars don't get damaged, can't really see how that makes me selfish, I'm even helping the environment by not needing unnecessary paintwork repairs done to my car ;)

The bottom line is why should I suffer and be out of pocket, due to idiots and the supermarkets who make the car parking bays far to narrow (which bays do you think a lot of visiting supermarket bigwigs park in when visiting stores, if there is no staff car park ? It's certainly not the narrow ones)

But the simple answer is, no one is going to look out for my cars but me, so that's all im doing, and if that offends people, then unless they are going to start a fund we can all dip in to if our car are damaged in a car park, then I'm afraid what ever others think is irrelevant :)

Like others i always park as far away from the supermarket entrance as possible. Also always worth looking for the spaces on a bend as they are very often a third again as wide as the others.

Funny that so do I and the day this happened was the day that the Audi TT with extra long and heavy doors was able to swing across the extra wide gap and cause the damage ... no doubt caught by the extreme wind that day!

So an extra consideration is to make sure the car you park next to (if you must) is facing into the wind so if the door won't be caught by the wind :banghead2:

So I now carry one of these in the boot to be sure

Then roll this out and slap it on :)

Then just in case I've had this baby fitted to catch any misdemeanours ...:handbags:

I'm now completely relaxed and just enjoy driving my car .. even to the supermarket ;)

Some good ideas there Slipps, but you might want to add one more. I think this one really shows people the error of their ways and it's ideal to guard against traffic wardens.......... :p

Not sure in the current market your management should be giving people more reasons not to shop at Sainsburys :(

still cheaper than a £ 400 parking dent though:D

Private car parking fines can't be enforced. They have no authority. Ignore fines. They have no access to DVLA so can't get your address.

We know that, but most folk just pay up. The DVLA will give out your address to just about anybody who pays their fee. (as long as you come up with a convincing reason)

I think you will find anyone can request information from the DVLA providing you have reasonable cause. And this instance is covered by at least two of the example statements made by the DVLA.

DVLA said:

‘Reasonable cause’ can include:
* tracing the owner of a vehicle illegally parked on private land
* issuing parking tickets

Once they have your details, they can forward them onto debt collection agencies. Non-payment can affect your credit rating (depending on how many you rack up)

Yet no doubt Sainsburys wont give a fxxk if you ask them to help you confront someone who is loading their car up with their trolley jammed against your door panel. Anyway, I cant remember seeing any signs warning customers not to park across a line and if there is no clear sign how can it be enforced?
