I'm thinking of changing my oil as I think it's too thin for the engine. At the moment I'm using Agip Special Synthetic but I think it needs a thicker oil like maybe Castrol. Infact on the engine it has " recommended castrol " written on it, no idea why the dealer is using Agip.

What oil do you recommend guys please so maybe I won't keep adding oil to the engine every week ?

Also I know that this has discussed before but do you have any opinion on spark plugs too ?

Thanks in advance !

Thanks for your reply
I don't know why they use Agip here
Do you recommend me any spark plugs too for standard Cupra as the standard ones are **** ?
Thanks in advnace

What rating is the Agip oil?

Like Nath says, Castrol Edge 5w30 is standard (VW's equivalent is called Quantum)

I moved straight to Mobil 1 (0w40) after hearing issues about oil consumption and have so far used under a litre in 2,700miles. I also know of other 1.4TSi engine cars happily using Motul oil. Both of these are slightly thicker and can run higher temps and still retain their lubricating properties.

Similar consumption to me. I've done just under 2500 miles and put 750ml in. Car is standard though unlike yours :p

So Castrol Edge 5w30 is the way to go I guess from the above comments

Castrol edge 5w 40 best oil use

cheers will buy it during the weekend and go to dealers to get an explanation why they're using agip in my engine

Edit:

Do you have picture of the one you use cause I found different images of it on google ?
Thanks in advance

I added oil to the engine again this morning as it was half the limit that it should be
Already had added her oil last Sunday morning so I don't know what's happening here

Well the dealer told this and it says on the castrol edge desgined for seat and vw etc...plus its super lubricated so should help with economy!

The whole point of VAG having specifications like 502.00 and 504.00 is that you can use any of them and the car will be just fine. You probably need 504.00 for longlife servicing and 502.00 or 504.00 for short interval servicing - the handbook will tell you.

There is no real evidence that any of them is any better than any other and any evidence would be virtually impossible to verify anyway as there are just too many variables.

You may be able to discover what oil the car has in it when delivered but so what?

VAG may say that they recomend Castrol but there is nothing to say that they don't recomend any of the others as well. You can bet your life that Castrol pay them to put the recomendation on the filler cap!

Just went in today and they changed the oil for me
They did Castrol Edge 5w 30, hope it's not much different from 5w 40
Will see if it will perform better in oil consumption

I have been using 5W30. Used 1L now. Not too bad for just over 2500 miles on a new engine. Should level out a bit more now, fingers crossed.

You should use: Castrol SLX Professional Powerflow LongLife III SAE 5W-30 (504 / 507)

Castrol Edge 5w30 doesnt meet the 504 / 507 requirements

Also Castrol Edge 5w40 its for Diesel Engines

If your dealers filled up with SLX Professional 5w30 then you're fine and it's the best you can get.

The dealer filled it up with Castrol Edge 5w 30 not SLX Professional, didn't know that it's for diesel engines

Should I change it again and do the slx professional or it won't harm the engine ?

Thanks in advance
