After giving my car some serious abuse around bedford aerodrome yesterday for a track day, i now need to replace my front tyres.

they came as standard with pirelli p-zero tyres on them and imo there not the best tyres in the world and dont like the wet at all!

what are the best tyres around at the mo for grip and and good in the wet?? i dotn realyl want to have to pay an arm and a leg for them as i can only currently spare a couple of fingers!

i had yokohama a539's on my old saxo and they seemed pretty good.

what would people recommend getting?

cheers

the toyo t1r@s ive just put on mine are better in the wet thasn my originals and grip very well and from mytyres.co.uk deliverd arnt much over 70 quid each and have good tread pattern they are a bit softer than most but with it being winter i cant see you wearing them out to quick

mine were 62 quid a tyre on 205 45 16 so 205 40 17 shouldnt be more than 70 by much

I had michelin pilots on my bmw and they gave brilliant grip especially for a rear wheel drive car, didnt have the best wear though

I havn't driven Potenzas
Nearly bought some Potenza RE720s for my Mk1 Golf last time around. They scored just about the same as as Rainsports in the Mytyres tyretest.com markings so I stayed with my beloved Rainsports

Proxes T1-Rs do appear to score just marginally higher than both for dry grip, noise and wear

Clearly all good tyres!

saying that though if you run big power in the wet you are not going to put it all down anyway ive come to realise this even though the toyos are great they are not going to grip that well flooring it in my car but handling in the wet if very good

Bridgestone Potenza series....believe me,they're the best there is [B)]

I tried these on my car earlier on in the year, and are the worst tyres i have ever bought. In the dry they were ok, but in the wet, IMHO they were ****. And as for the tyre ware :-o what an absolute ****, after about 3-4k the sidewalls on the front passanger side, well, it had worse the tread off the sides, so you couldnt tell where the top of the tyre started or anything. I bought them over yokohama pradas aswell as they had the same rating in dry performance, but wet was slightly better. Deffinataley not getting them again, think i will go for the pradas next time round.

bridgestone used to make potenza S-03, i thought they were a lot better than the RE's but seem to be a lot rarer than them.
They are a bit heavy though
