With fuel prices on the rise, how long before remapping companies start doing a fuel saving map :p
As my drive to work is 8 miles I don't think I see over 30mpg very often :-(

ive said before im surprised there isnt economy maps or maps 'for the misses' (yes or old man)

apr did a valet mode but it very extreme, fine for moving car about but too much for road use.

Do you think the turn engine off routine in traffic will damage it, i know in traffic the mpg plummits

At a guess I wouldn't imagine the turbo would like it much (unless of course you were going to stopped for a long time, on the M4 leading to Bristol for instance....)

problem is that you have to be in traffic stationary for a long period to benefit.
and this does require being able to predict that you will not move for a long time...

IMO , in theory good, practice not.
you will get more benefit anticipating and reducing time spent stationary in traffic. I have very rarely encountered conditions that turning off the engine would be of any benefit, and then by the time you realise your off again. Motorway smashes being the rare times its been of any use to me.

theres 6 gears there. use them to your advantage.

the turbo kicks in @ 2000rpm. u could drive around town without even breaking that.

Driving at the lowest possible revs puts strain on the engine and doesn't achieve any benefits. Shifting at 2.2k seems about right.

To boost MPG, get to the required speed quickly, then take ur foot of the gas, when the speed drops off put your foot down again. Do this constantly and your should see over 35 mpg avergage. I now also turn off my engine if the lights have just gone red, if it works for BMW, why no for SEAT? I haver been searching for an on/off button, but can only find apush start one. My leon has a 220 bhp jabba re-map, I have seen over 40mpg on the trip computer but this is difficult to acheave.

I have a mate who has a Mondeo ST TDCI, he only averages about 38 mpg, and has to put up with sounding like a taxi!!

Byeeee

IMO I cant see the point in worry about if its 28, 30, 35 or what ever mpg. At the end of the day it's only a few quid, probably not even a gallon of petrol. People get to hooked upon a number!

Just drive the car, accept that if you want better mpg swap to a diesel or smaller engine.

LC's and LCR's are built to be driven, not ***** footed around cause it might get and extra couple miles out of a tank.

I can see what your saying. I could drive with economy in mind, and make 32mpg jump to 35 maybe, but i will save what, less than a 2-4 quid a tank? Iwould pay 2-4 quid to have a bit more fun, and just drive how i want. at the end of the day, im not going to see significant improvements as its the same old car, how much more efficient can the same engine be?

would turning of the air con make any difference, i can feel the change in the engine when i switch mine off, not having a computer i dont know the exact mpg but i never get to 300 miles to the tank and that's using shell Ferrari fuel.

yep you are right mate, they are designed to be thrashed, when i brought my car i drove it around quite carefully and tbh they really dont like it...give em the beans i say...

for the first time in ages i actually checked my MPG the other day and i saw 31MPG how?.....normally its 24....it is unning 270 BHP so thats brilliant..worst ive ever seen is 19 MPG...

anyways, i turn the aircon button off (bottom left) to save a bit of fuel, along with not coasting in neutral....- i never really knew this till i tried it. i have to travel down a few hills from work, and most of the time the traffic is only moving at say 10 mph, so i wack it in neutral and roll. thinking i must be saving fuel, when in fact im not, i just wack it in 3rd and it is better....i dunno you learn something new everyday dont you..

MPG from LC...

Just worked mine out using the fill to brim - empty - fill top brim method... averaged 29mpg ...

Is that normal for these cars?

I was expecting around 32-33mpg to be honest ...

Because of long commute and possible petrol shortages, I have been driving like a ***** for the last few days. Also had to use my Leon, as other cars are in use.

Even with BT, I am astonished. Normally 18mpg, I have been using the boost gauge and driving so that I try never to see less than 10" of vacuum (5psi) or taking it over 3000 rpm. Also trying to anticipate things well in advance. I reckon I am getting a bit over 40mpg....

In fact, I am seriously thinking of fitting vac gauges to the other (non-turbo) cars as an economy aid.

To get the best economy just steal the g/f's car. It's what I do. 1.2 Corsa FTW!

Best I've managed in the LCR over a 100 mile journey!
