today i was just arriving home, turned the engine of and a awful ticking noise started, i opened the bonnet and had a look, couldn't see anything wrong. so i turned the ignition 2 turns till the dash board lights came on, and took the key out again and the same noise happened again. has anyone else had this experience?? or know what the problem could be?? i thought at first it was the starter motor at first??
thanks

Normally when you turn the car off it starts ticking this is the various componants starting to contract as there isnt any heating source nearly every car i have owned or been in has ticked as soon as you turn it off.

all the parts of the engine that get hot will expand very slightly, when they expand they tick but the engine drowns out the ticking. When you switch off the engine the hot parts cool down and make a ticking noise as they shrink back again. The classic part for this is the exhaust manifold, cat and exhaust system.

Maybe you should post a video/sound clip so we have more of an idea as there could be a relay or solinoid that is faulty.
