Am I crazy to part ex my 2005 LCR which has done 12k miles for a 2002 M5 which has done over 125k miles?

I test drove the M5 and it really is a beast of a car. Its in good condition as well with 6 months BMW extended warranty remaining.

The only thing putting me off is that I just feel that I have not had my money's worth out of the LCR as I bought it from new.

I love my LCR but I also the love the M5

Should I stick with my faithful LCR which should give me trouble free motoring in the future as I have looked after it or do I go for the riskier M5 where you can never be 100% sure that it has not been abused.

Your opinions would be most welcome.

Thanks

Difficult one, the M5 is a amazing car and is a league above really. However it has done an awful lot of miles, even for a BMW I would be thinking you'd be looking at some major replacement parts sooner or later. How much would you have to shell out for the m5?

A part exchange of £13k for my LCR and to pay an addtional £3k.

Its had one owner.

To do that sort of mileage in such a short space of time would indicate motorway miles.

It does have a full service history but I did not see any invoices so I dont know what has been replaced. Said the invoices went through the company so theres no record.

very tempting on the M5 but high mileage would put me off though, at least the LCR is still low mileage, maybe get some mods for the LCR.

At the end of the day it is up to you, sometimes you can get blinded when you drive a beast like the M5 and dont see anything past the power, decisions....decisions hey

true I suppose and they are solid cars, can you find out what the previous owner did may give you an indication of the type of driving the car has done

No offence to the guy who created this thread but its stupid. You cant really compare a M5 to a lcr. The M5 is in a different league. Its practicly a super car. But you could easily compare it it to a leon fr tdi [B)]

It all boils down to performance vs value for money.

If you want a 400bhp saloon you can have one. You just have to accept that it will cost more to run and that there may be some large bills ahead due to the milage. Even if it is mostly motorway miles some things will have to be replace as a matter of course.

you lot aren't confusing the new M5 with 2002 are you?

New one awsome , old one looks like an old farts car!

Thanks for your opinion, people.

My heart is telling me to get the the M5, but the brain is telling me to stick with the LCR.

Guess, I may have to toss a coin in the end.

You are a braver than I if you you're willing to put that sort of decision on the toss of a coin :)

Hmmm....top end 400bhp RWD super car with monster build quality, breathtaking chassis and a V8 that will run forever and outperform most things this side of 100k (although running costs will not be particularly cheap in reference to petrol and servicing), or an LCR....

Now let me see.......TEAR THEIR ARM OFF!

I take it you have never been in one then....
They are nice, understated with a hint of menace and they go like the clappers. Thinking about it unless its due for a major service/part change go for it! They are pretty rare and 125K on a bmw V8 is nothing I suppose. I knew someone who had one and he swore the engines in them didnt get interesting until they had done a good 50K

I'd get on some BMW forums, have a snoop around and see if anyone else has high miliage cars to get a feel for what they've had to replace.

think the next step would be get quotes for the work from specialists.

Timing chains don't last forever, and a job like that would be big money on a V8 M motor
