the 3.0 Z4 is on paper no doubt a quicker car but it just shows figures mean nothing on the road.........and there's no doubting the LCR will be a match for most things on the road.

only way to prove this is to get someone with a Z4 3.0 to turn up at Tris's trackday and go against a standard LCR.
The Z4 around a track would annihalate an LCR. Sorry there is no question, hands up it would also kill me round a track in mine too, i am 100 % sure of that.
desperatrly searching the track times of events to find proof, ask someone with race experience to comment on this.

I don't understand the confusion.
Your car has very similar weight, horsepower and torque to a 3.0Z4, and (since he had the roof down) probably a better drag coefficient.
And you're surprised that the performance was similar.

yeah i checked the info in Evo,
But i did state quite clearly the 2 instances, where i got spanked by one around the Nurburgring and also on back roads in the kent country side that i know very well. so i know first hand that genuine 3.0 Z4's are quick.
although quoted times are 0 - 60 in 5.8 thats more a measure of good traction than performance, a few people have got low 6's in a standard LCR so imagine how the figures would change if leons were RWD
there are quite a few cars that'll leave you for dust from a standing start but from a rolling start the results can be quite suprising

It was a 3.0 I am sure. Anything else wouldn't have stood much of a chance. I have been in the lower models (is it the 2.5) and it was soooo slow.

It is slightly worse, i remember on fifth gear plato and tiff where racing the new shape boxter s against the 3.0 z4 and they both had there + & - but in the end the Z4 cooked its brakes.NumberoftheBeast said:

I had a tussle against a 3.0 Z4 when they were new and I was in my LeonR, it was behind and I kept accelerating after getting past traffic and it would hang on to my bumper. I let him past and had a go and held on to their bumper. Nothing in it in my experience.

Yep agree Z4 is a tarts car, 231 bhp, dont mess with new engined 3.0l now though 258 bhp and 265 bhp in 130i sport, the new 330 d now runs 231 bhp standard and 370lbft on and the egines 26 KG lighter,NumberoftheBeast said:

Can't believe the huge debate this topic has caused. I just thought it was a good topic to post whilst i was bored in the office. I have no doubt that the z4 3.0 is a truely amazing car, especially around a track and perhaps abit more fun to drive than an LCR however, they have no huge power to boast about.
I believe that if your going to spend so much money on a Z4 3.0 would it not be alot better to be different and get a z3 m coupe/roadster. You would definitely get alot more respect and be up there with the best!
P.s. Ant FR. Is it really your place to say that the car in question wouldn't keep up with an LCR when you don't own 1?
