Boost guage - any need?

Is there any real point in having boost guage/pressure gages etc?

I've seen a lot of threads about people who've bought them and are trying 'desperately' to install them but I'm not really convinced that they're 'performance' looking or very useful

I may be wrong, there may be a fantastic reason for having them what do you think?

i like the look of them but they can help you tell if you have a boost leak if your car is feeling slow etc .

there isn't a need for them but as said, handy for diagnostics and fault finding also can show you if the car is holding boost and performing as expected, they are easy to fit, took me less than 45mins from start to finish, and no and no problems during the install

I spent ages trying to diagnose a fault on the cupra when i first bought it. Turned out to be a boost leak. A gauge would of saved me hours of messing around. Deffo worth it imo.

remapped cars are more prone to boost leak issues and a gauge will show this to some extent. soft limp is easierly spotted.

oil temp is good in that it tells you when how hard your pushing the engine and when its safe to do so.

oil pressure is safety net telling you the oils moving and the engines lubed

all helpful in letting you keep an eye on things. the peace of mind alone is worth the hassel for me.

Just out of interest, what would be the tell tale sign(s) of a boost leak? (assuming i have no guages)

You might hear air escaping.

if you had a small leak your performance would suffer ranging to full limp mode if big enough.

gradual losses may be hard to feel without the gauge.

nomad a post pillar and boost gauge can look very OEM . couple of non seat mates thought it was standard it fitted so well.

ditto to most of the above, the gauge can be a very handy tool to check whats going on without much hassle, it also looks rather nice IMO.

word of warning though, think Nomads mould might be spreading slightly on the one they used for mine as my pillar fitted almost perfectly but you could tell its curve was slightly flatter than the original a pillar, its hardly noticeable but once you do notice it then it might nag at you like mine does, lol. Could just be a one off thing, everyone else's looks fine that ive seen :S
