boot lock rattles

ok i found my rattle its the locking bar on the boot lock, (the shorter one not the long one that releases the catch) but how on earth can i stop it? it just seems to rattle in its joints but if i tape it or whatever the lock wont work???

I've removed mine and disconnected the central locking

but then how do you lock it? cos it goes from the shaft (where u would turn key) to the mechanism to release the catch? surely its permantly locked or unlocked without the link bar?

Lock it with the key, link bar is only required for the central locking motor
