Did you get them from the ebay seller "car-on-do" in Germany, which is where I did, and was model No 017468 on the box ?

when removing both sides you will be able to lift higher and the new strut will fit.

https://vimeo.com/156728914 I do hope they loosen up a bit because it's quite a bit harder to close. The mrs will struggle lol

The people who are running these, have the struts loosened and are not as stiff in use now? Is there anyobvious damage to the lock with running these?
Cheers

Hi there, I see some of you have the gas struts for quite some time now, do you have any issues with them, any damage or anything, if they are working fine I am thinking of ordering some :)

I don't have any issues with them. They've actually got better with age, as in they've loosened up do its easier to shut the boot. When I first got them I really had to pull the boot lid

Still working fine here, just taken them off the 280, got to get round to fitting them to the 290, but have been busy trying to get decent MPG from it.... :cartman:

These are a great mod. Had mine for over 5 months now and no issues. At first I thought they were to strong as they swung the door open really fast, and sometimes wouldn't open at all needing a little touch to open fully. But this soon went away as they got a bit of use and loosen up a bit. Now they feel almost as stock with just a bit more weight needed to close the door but opens up nicely every time. Go for it man!

Just done this mod to my car. Would never change back to stock. Ordered from Germany.. cost £27.. delivered in 5 days and fitted in 10 mins. Couldn't be easier.

Just seen that this tread has been revived. A few people asked if there are any issues over time:

The struts start off stiff but do ease a little.
They get very lazy when cold to the point where they don't open (once @ sub-zero temps it was like the stock struts - unlatched but no lift).

Be very careful of the interior hatch trim. I don't like to get the grubby fingerprints or scratches along the lower edge of the hatch so I used the interior handles. One day the whole panel came off (with damage to the clips). There are no screws in the handle recesses (like my previous MK5 Golf's) for strength.

I took them off my Cupra SC when I sold it but my wife doesn't want them on her FR. Her opinion is that they make the boot a big PITA to close.
