Mate, i tell you now that car has mounted a kerb sideways... my focus had near the exact damage when i did the same, i mounted a kerb at around 40mph trying to miss a head on with a truck. I bounced up a kerb, bent the alloy and landed right across the underside of the bumper and sub frame, it bent all that you have in the pics, the exhaust, gearbox and etc.. i repaired mine on insurance and it came to near 2k to repair as like in the photos, everything just budged out of alignment and everything bent when it landed...

I would think that guy is going to refuse payment and go with the sold as seen idea...

if it where me.. i would go round with the heavys to demand the money, i know its not right, but some people only react to that kind of "Persuasion"

i think i'll wait for AA man to come tomorrow and see what he says. Then go down the official route. then we'll see what happens. not looking forward to the phone call though!

Have you done a background check on it, to see if it was declared for any insurance losses or with the police if it was seen at a site of an accident?

Mate, i tell you now that car has mounted a kerb sideways...

I would agree with this - it's had a knock from the front (rad) but most was underneath, so it's gone up and onto something.

Although, people need to chillax when it comes to Cat D cars. My Ibiza was Cat D fixed it up good as new and now for sale again. D is cosmetic damage only

Could it of gone over a bridge and jumped pretty far ? looks like a lot of damage.I hope you can get your cash back and not worry about it. Let us know how it gets on

Luckily the damage and 'repairs' don't look recent, so I think the trader would have a hard time arguing that you had caused the damage. Most likely it was caused by the previous owner and the trader didn't check over the car properly.

Wonder how much transmission oil you have left in that box.....

Looks like that moulded piece of chewing-gum has soaked quite a bit of the oil up, the rest might be on your local roads.

Are you going to tell us what garage you bought it from? They should go on a lemon list.

That's in pretty grubby condition for a 54 plate car - most concerning is that rather large dent to the undertray and the gearbox casing repair. I reckon as others have said it's old damage though and the trader either didn't know or does know and wanted shot of it.

If you can hand it back and walk away i would do that. Repairing would be a last resort as it doesn't look like it's had an easy life!

Leaking boost pipes is a standard thing though :)

Buyer Beware springs to mind on this.. really now down to you in a sense to prove it was done befroe you bought it, not for the other guy to prove otherwise....
good luck, though
:)

does'nt exist anymore mate, buyer beware ihas been tested too much in the courts to be used as back up

i wouldnt think twice about going down there and herling abuse, dont let them get away with it, garages do s#!t like tha every day and get away with it.

In a private sale youd have no chance, but, as its a trader, the ball is more than in your court mate. The offical route will sort the problem, just be patient and dont get angry. In your letter quote the reference number Trading standards gave you, asking him to contact them if he has any quires about the case. Good luck :)

Im absalutley gutted i hate people like,i hope u kan screw the guy over big time!if he did know about it how meany more has he sold like that?good luck mate hope you get it sorted!

Please, everyone give the guy a break. I'm sure all these comments are helping him feel any better! Lets all hope he gets it sorted.

For what it's worth mate it sounds like you are trying to go about it the right way. And there is always a chance that the dealer is as much in the dark as you were when you bought it. Depends how much they did to it to prepare it for sale.

Thanks for all the comments fellas (and ladies?). The aa guy came today and said it's had at least a front impact collision. The repairs are of dubious quality. all of which Jabbasport told me, but it's nice to have the independent report there if things do go nasty.

For all of you wondering which garage to avoid, i'll contact him first and see what his reaction is. If it's bad i'll let you all know in big red flashing letters! If he's reasonable about it, i don't see any reason putting him on the black list.

Just building up the courage to call :)
