Yeah you went a little mad. Now I'm going to have to weld a new skin in there! :)

You need to remove the front bar too.

I don't mind doing the front bar for you if you want to leave it?

How're you finding the grinding mate? Is it difficult? I'm attempting it on bolt heads tonight! Ha!
Yes it's fairly hard, the tunnel isn't straight and oviously the cutting disc is so very hard to get a clean cut. Instead I ended up grinding it back, but it takes forever.

Thought so haha, I can't see how you're going to get a flat piece of metal welded on the outer it's got some curvature to it.

I can do the front bar bit no worries, it seems a lot more accessible just a matter of time.

Would you have some spare metal you could bring with you Alex? Might be able to do a few bits of patch work myself beforehand... we'll see how confident I'm feeling.

Thanks Jio.

Nice bit of progression yesterday & today with cutting out the rails and centre piece metal bar

Ahh yeah, cut through these :(

IMG_9465.jpg

All good, nicely repaired now though.

Had a massive clear out of the car because it was covered, and I mean covered with metal filings and dust.

IMG_9466.jpg

Finally grinding down what's left of the metal to make it as smooth as I could justify, word of warning to anyone doing the same...the underside of the car gets very hot, I started seeing smoke at one point so be cautious :)

How easy was it to remove the cross part where the seat fixes to at the front? (the part your grinding away across the floor plan?

Im thinking of removing mine so i can fit lower and better seat frames, which im guessing is why your doing it. But ill use the existing slider rails to slide in a bar with a plate on the end, pretty much like what the back portion of my sparco subframes are like now.

Good seats I have a pair in black with orange stitching :)
Yeah they seem great, I sit in them once a day in the lounge lol.

Phil, that bit is really easy, just 1mm cutting disc and grinding disc/ flap disc to finish off and make it smooth. It's reall thin metal so grinds away quickly, did both in about 2-3 hours. Word of warning though cover all the windows including the back one (or open boot) when grinding because it melts the glass really easily. The dash will get covered too so expect mess. If you're cool with that then go for it.

I'm going for the same set up as Alex had with two static bars welded in either side and the seat bolting straight to that. Nice and FIA approved :funk:

Today's plans were to fit my rear beam bushes and re-fit the rear beam, this was not the case :( after realising that the bushes were 100x harder than I thought to fit, popped them in the freezer and going to give it another bash tomorrow.

Instead I wire brushed and paint stripped the rear calipers as they were in need of a refurb
