Burning smell

I have a 1.2 seat ibiza and was driving to work when the engine light came on. After 2 - 3 minutes stop start traffic there was a burning smell and the engine stopped. On trying to restart the engine the oil light has come on and the the engine wont start. The electrics seem ok, and ignition working and the engine is turning over but not starting. The engine is chugging over and vibrating. At the moment i cannot trace the source of the burning smell.

Any ideas would be really greatly appreciated.

Definitely sounds like an oil issue to me..

As above mate!!! Oil spilling out onto either a hot engine or exhaust will cause quite a destinctive burning smell, and is a very high fire risk...

Prob best not trying to keep starting it etc as you could be doing more harm than good! If you can, get under it and check around the sump area for leaks and runs etc and check the oil level to check see if there is any in?!?!?
