buying a "new" Cupra R 225

Hello,

A friend is offering to sell me his LCR 225. He got it new from a dealer in September 2003, drove it only 1000 km (yes, that's right, only 1000 km) nad then stored it in a covered garage until now. Last time the car was started (but not driven) was January this year. Battery is obviously dead, and tyres need some air, although they are not flat. It worries me though that the car has not been driven for so long.

Anything I should do before I start it? Before I start driving it? Dealer suggests I just do an oil and filter change.

Blimey, why didnt the guy drive it? did he not like it? have better cars to play with? yeah i would suggest an oil change, and filters, and probably a new tank of fuel. apart from that i dont really know what else to suggest. Im sure others will correct me pr add anything else up.

Good question. He was transferred abroad.

Oil and filter change will be needed, a new tank of petrol as well just in case the stuff in the tank has gone 'stale'. The tyres may be ok but be aware that tyres do tend to suffer if the car hasn't moved for a while. If the handbrake was left on then this may stick and the discs may have collected a layer of rust so when driven make sure you travel a small distance (like 50ft) at slow speeds and constant braking on and off. Another small thing you may notice is a musty smell in the air-conditioning system, an aircon bomb should help sort this or a aircon service.

Wow I got mine last month, one year old and only 2450 miles. That is very low mileage for a 2003

Turn the engine without firing to give the oil time to run around the engine etc.

And brake down 50 yards down the road, how you bring a car out of storage is very important if you want it to last

they sit on forecourts and bloody dockyards for months,they get a polish and a tyre kick by a dealer,and then some new owners comes along and wheelspins off like a man possessed.how old was the oil in the car you bought?did you see it get put in?probably months old before it left spain.
