Without sounding like I'm stating the obvious, what you should probably do is take it to the dealer or specialist. When I took mine in they wouldn't let me take the car away until the tech had looked properly as if the chain slips too far or comes off you're looking at a big bill.

As rick said check the pick up and also do an oil change asap with new filter

no but it will get rid of the crapy oil that may be blocking the pick up witch could of made the tensioner fail i changed my oil every month when mine was playing up untill i got it sorted (witch was six months) just to keep the pick up clean and did the filter every two months if the tensioners gon or going you will have a tapping on first start up as it relies on oil pressure to keep the chain tight and when its gone/going it cant keep the pressure so the chain rattsels about untill the pressure is there i found if i reved the car the noise went away but later came back on idle after a while

scanned the car today and i got 1 fault -17748-camshaft position sensor (g40)/engine speed sensor
thoughts?

Could you tell me where the speed sensor is on a lcr? I know the camshaft sensor is under the cambelt cover but don't know where the speed sensor is.

engine speed sensor is AKA crank position sensor, IIRC its near the oil filter....just to the right as your looking at it from the front

Ok so I changed the camshaft sensor and cleaned the codes, took it out for a drive and under load suffered a slight what felt like misfire.when I got back I scanned the car again and I had the same fault as before.the engine also seems to have a slight misfire or knock on idle every 5 seconds or so.I will be trying changing the crankshaft sensor in the next few days in the hope that it's the cause.

Abit of an update,so after changing the camshaft and crankshaft position sensors I still had the same fault coming up.so today the cambelt was checked and was found to be very slightly out.I roller bearing was also found to be sticking slightly too,so hopefully this was the cause of my faults.

1 week later and no fault codes, seems the problem was a £25 cambelt roller bearing.a funny thing tho.when the light was on the car was so much faster, very strange.

I was there when the belt was lined up so that's all ok.I have vag com lite so are there any blocs I can log to see what's going on?
