Cambelt and water pump change - how much?

Got my LCR225 booked in for a cambelt and water pump change this weekend, although it's less than the recommended 60k miles (44k) it is over the recommended four years old. At least, I can't see anything in the service logbook that says it's been changed and I don't want to risk it breaking.

Just wondered, how much this should cost from an independant dealer? I saw something on here recently saying an official SEAT dealer quoted about £600, the garage I'm going to isn't an official dealer but they do specialise in VAG cars. Forgot to ask them how much it was going to cost but will do that today, just thought I've still got time to shop around a bit if it turns out they're asking over the odds.

Cheers

it's all about having a "daughter's mechanic boyfriend".

did you sit and watch him in your rocking chair whilst chewing a piece of straw with a 12 gauge across your knee?

I bet he did a perfect job, I would never want to cross the (potential) father in law...

Well I just got it done for £310 and some pennies. The garage ordered the parts in advance of the day it was booked in for so the car was in and out in half a day. Don't know if I'm supposed to say where it was on these forums (dunno if it counts as advertising) but if anyone Aberdeen area is interested then PM me and I'll say! I was certainly happy with the service I got anyway and that price seems about average to me so I'll happily go back.

Was that including the parts? Sounds like a decent price.

Could you PM the garage details?

I would but you don't seem to be able to receive PM's, maybe because you're not a full member yet! PM me once you're past 15 posts or so and I'll be happy to let you know.

Is there anything official (online possibly?) that states the VAG rule for the cambelt change? I've read a few threads on it and have seen several different figures quoted. 5 years/50k, 4 years/60k etc.

I've not yet picked my 04 Cupra R (with 52k on the clock) up from the dealers and if I can find the official the VAG recommendation then I might be able to get them to change it before I collect, assuming it's not already been done (Can't remember if it was mentioned in the service log to be honest).
