Hi, i have my enegine currently in bits having the cam belt changed and the mecnaic is saying that the new cam belt drive pully is loose? it sits on fine but has about a 1mm play when tight? Is this normal? or is this leave your car in bits till you can get a new one?

it will cause errors with the timing i think...the camshaft positioning sensor will throw up fault codes...id say get it sorted 100% before rebuilding it...

Thats what i thought, just means getting the parts which is a pain because i live no where near a garage and trying to get the mecanic back, unwanted stress but i'm sure there would be more if the car blow up!

i'd get it all sorted properly. it may only be 1mm play when pulled by hand but a lot more force is involved when the engine is running. I had the pulley come off one of the cams on my old vectra v6 and it bent every single one of the 24 valves. the extra cost is worth it because you'll only have to do it all again when it goes bang.

on a postive note the rest of the service has gone well and my nice new ebc pitted and grooved discs and red stuff pads look nice lol
Just a shame it's going to take a few days or weeks till i can try them out!
