Car Failed MOT any help much appreciated

Hi people

Took car in for MOT today and it failed on what i would say is the most annoying thing ever but its safety i guess. My middle REAR SEAT BELT is jammed wont move in or out and theres no leverage on it at all.

I've peeled of the back carpet on seat and as you probably all know its full of metal and a couple of holes which don't do nothing and i was advised by a scrap yard its common and just to try yanking it out but that hasnt worked either.

Is there anything anybody can advise to sort this out

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

same happened me today. make sure the latch on the other side is securely shut. pull the handle and pull the seat forward, then slam it back into place. there is a mechanism on that latch that releases the seat belt mechanism, only when the seat is securely locked into the pin.

Ahh brilliant info thanks mate

think ive worked it out

couple of weeks ago i tried to pull seat down and the lever to pull to get the seat down was jammed so im guessing thats broken hence the reason it wouldnt come down.

therefore new seat needs to be bought or i need to adjust that lever on the side to get it working properly. got break from work in a minute so 15 minutes to play with, will be updated asap

thanks matey

nope not worked,

Managed to get hold of a breakers yard in nottingham who said bring it in and hes pretty confident he would be able to get it out so its just the case of waiting and going to nottingham.

Does anyone know of any VW/SEAT SPARES in or around the STOKE ON TRENT area,

Been quoted £70 for a replacement seat or he can just try and pull it out ive had no luck so far tried absolutely everything

thanks for the diagram mate, yeah i can see where the problem is only problem is the actual belt is inside the actual seat. I just cant actually physically get inside the seat and after taking the carpet off from the back of the seat theres nothing but metal there.

can you get in from cushion side? Could try takin seat back out and lift of cover and cushion? To get back out there is a clip type thing where it hinges at the side, push clip back lift seat back and gently pull from middle hinge.

You get into the seat belt mech by taking the foam off the front pop the seat out (only one clasp/hook on one side and slide out) undo the 17mm bolt holding the seat belt to the floor. Take the cover off and there is the belt. At worst it will need a new belt but I would think the cable isnt allowing the belt to retract.

just whip out the seats, therefore no MOT test on seatbelts required.

then spend your time fixing it at your leisure, but with an MOT pass

normally if you grab it and pull it hard a fewtimes downwards it releases it from the mechanism, but when pulling it let it release the tension each time..
