cheers dannyk, much appreciated mate, I was going to use a trolley jack rather then the oe jack, where would be the best place to put this, same as the oe jack point?

where you put the axel stands is there a solid peice of metal there? will check this out on my car again in a mo.

where did you get your axel stands danny, halfords?

If you use a trolley jack on the oe jacking point, it will bend. but if you put a piece a wood either side of the sill it should be ok(if you have a look at it you'll see what i mean). I can't use a trolley jack anyway cos the cars too low!!

Yes there is a piece of metal where i put the alxe stands, i'm pretty sure its the chasis.

And i got my alxe stands from a place called Autosave, but don't think you have them down south, TBH any will do, just make sure they can take the load of the car.

Cheers

Danny

Dont bother with axel stands, do what i do and jack it up then stick the flat bit of the ramps under the wheels (not so much ramps as a raised working platform!)
May as well as you've already got em, and it's also more unlikely your car will fall off using these than axel stands when your yanking something off the car (as long as you leave it in gear/handbrake on obviously).

cheers for all your help danny, very helpful.
im sure 1 ton per axel stand will be fine, I did see a nice beam of metal under the car when I looked in line with the wheels which might be suitable for the trolley jack? will play it be here.

not got autosave so will try the net or halfords

I cant get my foot under my car and i manage it! Just carefully drive the front up on bricks first than put the jack where the arrows pointing for 'axel stands here' on the previous page.

But then i've nowhere to put my axle stands......:p . TBH the oe jacks ok for putting the car on stands, wouldn't work on the car with the oe jack tho!

just an update on this, went to halfords and purchased some axle stands for £9.99 2 tone per axle stand, look sturdy and will do the job fine.
Car ramps are no use to me and did not work out!, never mind.

Today I did a dummy run with the axle stands as im still waiting for a oil filter removal tool, first off I put my front wheels on some 2x2 wood blocks just to raise the underside of the car up to allow the trolley jack to get underneath (unsure if a bottle jack would be better?)

I then jacked the car up and put one axle stand underneath (could not get the trolley jack right in the centre as the extension bar I have is too small plus I could not get the right leverage on it)

then did the other axle stand, only put the axle stands on the first height setting and this seems to be fine for me to get under the car

I think I am going to leave the the trolley jack under the car also as a safety net, not that the car would drop or anything but just as a precaution.

Danny if you are reading just wanted you to have a look at the pics I took of the axle stands and where I put them, I take these look o.k? to me these were the only safe place to put them and fitted snugly around the chasis.

When I do the oil change maybe ill do a rough guide with pics for people who are interested in doing there own interim oil changes on there leon, for the D.I.Y amateurs like myself?? cheers

when i whip off the wheels i usually put them under the car out of the way/sfety net.in the very unlikely event the axle stands fail.but i doubt you will be taking the wheels off to do a oil change :)

if your bumper hits the ramp why not just put a plank of wood in front of the ramp so the wheels are raised a little as you drive onto it?

Hi jason, hows you?

TBH the axle stands look sturdy little fcukers! I doubt the car will be going anywhere, good idea about the wheels but like you say not for the oil change, will leave the trolley jack there just to be sure, had a good look under the car and the engine cover aint as big as what I first thought it was, does not look that bad but I wont push my luck hey.

The cheapest thing so far......... sump plug and washer 0.95p +vat

this has been trial and error (more error though... lol), still does not quite clear with the wood ive got but yes im sure with thicker wood it would solve this,

on the flip side I suppose I could now use either, or take the axle stands back but I aint too bothered as they only cost a tenner.

Glad you got it sorted out.

I wouldnt put em there. You'l bend your chasis rails as they're not reinforced there. They need to be further forward where the vertical line is on em just behind the round plastic bit. Could just be the angle of the pic tho. It almost looks like you've got the car balancing on 2 axle stands there!

Sorry to be digging up old threads, but i really dont feel this has been properly answered! Searched through this forum, but still no definitive answer! Please please please, could someone take a piccy of the jacking points and axel stand points and then maybe make a sticky? Worked on fords, renaults, pugs, but never had to question where i was putting the jacks til now! Damn Spanish.... :p

Thanks in advance guys :D

some may say lala land....
I'll second your question Neg. I've always been wary of where to put axle stands or the jack to raise it. I know about the skirt covers coming of and using that for the oem jack, but would like to remove this hassle.

thanks
