car wont rev above 4800rpm

when driving along normally the car sometimes feels jerky and when accelerating hard the power cuts back at around 4k and wont rev any higher than 4.8k found it worse in 3rd gear. its a 1.8 20v totally standard engine anybody know what wrong with it?

sorry forgot to mention no light on the dash just a reduction in power

over boosting???? maybe coils are going high up in the rev range??? maf issues.

coils were changed back last year i believe. the fault doesnt occur eveytime its driven thought a valve or something was sticking or maf on its way out. just dont want to spend a fortune and end up being something silly. where and how much for vagcom?

Get it on Vag.com if you can, sounds similar to problems i had when the maf was knackered though.

just cos coils were changed last year doesnt mean anything. not with these cars

not sure on coils mate, was out yesterday and it accelerated too 6000 in second no problem then in third just died at 4800, then later on it was fine. thought if it was a coil it would do it all the time.

going to get new plugs for it first and maybe a maf before i go any further, was hoping someone has had the same fault and could tell me what it was. if it is the coils is there an upgraded or better set for the 1.8 20vt engine?

Dude i ahd the same signs as you, in the end i changed maf, n75, coils, spark plugs, temp sensor.

The list goes on see if someone in your area has vagcom will tell you what is wrong

I dont mean it is coils. Im just saying dont think it cant be something just because its new. That means f*** all when it comes to cars

does it not rev past it in neutral and backfire? I'd have a £10er on the Maf.

Have you tried un-plugging the Maf? You really need to get it plugged into Vag-Com. No point in guessing.

yeah i know trying to find someone with it near edinburgh that aint going to charge crazy money to do it
